WTF????
1.
does this system have to download all the time?
i have just wasted 25 minutes trying to play Resident Evil 5
and the PS3 continually disconnects my linksys router so i get a message that the download is not able to be done.
can i just stop the system from downloading updates?
2.
does every game have to be installed to the hdd?what ever happened to
a. insert disc
b. play game?
why do i need to waste time with all this downloading?
and is there something i am not clued into about the PS3 disconecting my router? as soon as the PS started to TRY to download "updates", my wireless conecter symbol on my laptop got a big RED X and i had no router access. my PC had the same thing. i unplugged the router and tried again same thing.
then i abandoned the idea of the downloading of the updates.
just let me play the freaking game already!!!
and now the router is fine
:crash: :thefinger

i don't know why it kept disconnecting. i tried like 8 times and it finally worked.
all the router and wireless info and passwords were correct.
i wonder if i get wired would it work better? i would need like 20 feet of wire but do anyone who reads this think that would be a better choice?

Yeah Whalers, check your internet and router. Your router probs dont have 1 thing to do with the ps3.The ps3 works like a pc as far as downloads, installs etc goes. Its beneficial and worth the 5 mins when you pop in the game for the first time(less pop-up,lag,better load times)

As far as going wired? Do it bro, hands down no ?'s asked. Wireless sucks for gaming period. It depends on how much online shit you play.If you play lots of shooters and sports than get the wire it would be well worth the trouble and $$. Youre gonna want to have a good connection when I school you at NHL10 this Sept.............:glugglug:

I've always wondered why Sony has taken the Apple approach and made you download the entire firmware every time there is an update versus just the updates.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
I sometimes have similar problems, if the router is under extreme load (ie downloads etc streaming on other machines) then the PS3 download speed suffers hugely. For instance a 130 Mb firmware download should take no more than 5-10 mins, can take in excess of 30-60 mins when the router is being accessed heavily. If you plan to play online then remember to try to lessen the load on the router as the game will play more smoothly, and generally downloads etc on the PS3 will increase noticeably. Not all games require you to download updates, most in my experience offer you them, but give you the option of updating or skipping the updates for the moment (but dependent on games in question).

Most games dont require HDD install, although some do require you as the performance will be increased during play (reading from HDD is much quicker than from the blue-ray disc). The last game I had to install to HDD was MGS4, which was split into 4-5 chapters and as each chapter was being played there was a brief 5 minute install of the chapter data between chapters. Hope this helps. Let me know if the peoblem is still there and I may be able to try a few things for you.
