Psychology of Pornstars

Has there been any psychological research about pornstars?

Pornstars seem to violently defy socially accepted sexual ethics and behaviour. They are willing to go to any or all extremes on camera for money. I am curious about any psychological analysis of pornstars; i.e. what makes them so willing to act as they act on camera? and how are newbie stars so open even in their debut films?

In a behind the scenes movie I watched, a pornstar (name forgotten), said "I love porn. Not only does it pay well, I also get fucked".

I guess coming to an adult board would seem a good route, but most here just watch it they don't analyze it. Not caring about the 'meat' of the subject, only how many times a day they can.... nm you get my point. Maybe look up a few colleges and contact 'human behavior' (or similar) professors. They probably could help.

Pornstars are such taboo subjects no one really feels comfortable in discussing them. I can't really appreciate any suggestion of going to human behaviour "professors" as I was merely following "Lets talk about whatever you wanna talk." motto of this forum.

You are right, most people just watch porn but don't analyze it, however, in my opinion, one cannot help but wonder how can these performers do in front a lot people and cameras what they wouldn't even consider doing in the privacy of their bedrooms.

That's basically right. The top five reasons they do it are.

1. Money
2. Money
3. Money
4. Money
5. More money.

Some might do it for the fame or the notoriety...to get more money or a higher fee, usually while dancing or escorting. I hope nobody actually thinks hardcore pornstars do it for the sex. There might be a very few people out there where that's true or at least partially true, but most of the time it's just for the money whether they think it's a quick and easy source of it or they are desperate.

Not that I know of, specifically. I am also intrested in that and I have read a bit about the subject in general in my study of women's issues. but I would recommend checking out the vh1 show Celebrity rehab with Dr. Drew, it shows a lot of personal insight into porn star Mary Carey.

Now that I think of it, this book I just read about zoos, Thought to exist in the Wild By Derrick Jensen, as well as another of his books about technology, Welcome to the machine, deal heavily with the sociological implications of voyeurism, and they make menntion of pornography in that regard. I wouldn't really recomend those on this subject because they are mainly topical, but as a person that is interested in social issues, the dynamics between those relationships are interesting to me.

I saw a documentary in the UK a few years ago about british girl who wanted to work in the porn industry. What was really interesting was the psychological side of it all. She'd done a few topless photo shoots in the UK and the documentary team followed her progress. Eventually, she headed over to California after getting an interview with a studio. I can remember her waiting in an office with the camera crew, when two guys walk in, straight away he asked her to undress and put on a gown, which she she did, by then he's sat behind his desk and asks her to come around and sit on his knee! She kind of looks a bit dubious about this but goes round and sits on his knee. He pulls her gown open, gives her a good handbra and makes a comment to the other guy about 'good sized tits'. This part is shown in the documentary, and she looks slightly embarrassed. It continues, and although obviously not shown on TV, he puts her hand down his pants, then gradually maneuvers her over. By this point she realises what he's going to do, and says, I didn't think I'd be doing it during my interview! By now she's quite embarrassed and giggling nervously, I think mainly because she's got to know the documentary team and she knows what's going to happen next! Although nothing is seen, its obvious that he's started to fuck her and the documentary team leave, later they ask if the interview was what she expected? She just says, well I obviously have to prove I could work in porn, and I've been given my first shoot! This happens a few days later with the same guy, and another girl. The documentary team film her as she goes into the studio, what follows is quite disturbing, as the documentary maker talks, with background sounds coming from the studio, she comes running out crying! Later she explains that he wouldn't remove his cock from her mouth and she was choking, and panicked! I think she returned to the UK after this experience, and it proved that even if its what you want to do, its not always successful for everyone no matter what the incentive!

That last posting proves to me only that there are still enough assholes in the porn business who take advantage of the girls. For me not much of a man this guy, because you just don't tread women that bad (for example in a way that makes them cry from humiliation), not even in a porn shoot.
I think, porn chicks sometimes just have to take some shit. Depends on the studio or the agency they work with. Question is whether they are mentally ready and prepared to be humiliated and "dehumanzied".
My opinion, a nice and ambitious girl, who brings some talent for this kinda thing with her, will be able to make it in the porn business without ever having to work for guys like that.
