Can't figure this one out though???

3 MEN GO INTO A HOTEL. THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK SAID THE ROOM IS £30.00 SO

EACH MAN PAID £10.00 AND WENT TO THE ROOM.

A WHILE LATER THE MAN BEHIND THE DESK REALIZED THE ROOM WAS ONLY £25.00

SO HE SENT THE BELLBOY TO THE 3 GUYS' ROOM WITH £5.00

ON THE WAY THE BELLBOY COULDN'T FIGURE OUT HOW TO SPLIT £5.00 EVENLY

BETWEEN 3 MEN, SO HE GAVE EACH MAN A £1.00 AND KEPT THE OTHER £2.00 FOR

HIMSELF.

THIS MEANT THAT THE 3 MEN EACH PAID £9.00 FOR THE ROOM, WHICH IS A TOTAL

OF £27.00, ADD THE £2.00 THAT THE BELLBOY KEPT = £29.00

WHERE IS THE OTHER POUND?

theres no missing pound. the man behind the desk relized his mistake. gave the bellboy 5 pounds. the man behind the desk has 25 pounds now. the bellboy gave each a pound. theres 28 pounds. kept 2 pounds for himself. 30 pounds.

i know what was getting you confused though. kind of had me also. but i had to go back to the beginning to get it.

...this is how big companies play tricks not to pay all the taxes! all you need is a right way to describe situation... 9x3=27, but at the same time it turns out to be 28!

and when there are much more operations? you can easily hide a million dollars :)

Its easy to get confused just by looking at things in a different way, sure big companies do it all the time

Yeah at first almost got me, but everything added up after a second look it was the way you worded it at the end, the numbers don't lie.

Yeah it's amazing on how companies do this with pennies and can end up with millions in extra cash.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
This is an oldie, but a goodie.

The reason it does not work out properly, is that yes, each man did pay 9 pounds for the room, but in doing the math, the two pounds the bellboy kept should not be ADDED to the 27 pounds total, but SUBTRACTED from it, since he was effectively taking money from the men. This leaves the proper room price the "man behind the desk" determined, 25 pounds.

With your explanation, Senob, I am getting even more confused than I was before

A woman is an occasional pleasure but a cigar is always a smoke.
This one is a real head-scratcher, but I'll try to figure it out.

The man behind the desk has 25 pounds. He then gave the bellboy 5 but he only gave 3, so theres 28 pounds & kept 2 pounds for himself. 30 pounds.
