This came to my mind today...

Is the term "White Power" racist?

And if so why is "Black Power" not?

:dunno:

I'm going to try my hand at the deep profundity gimmick;

Let's see, why are the terms 'in front' or 'in behind' matters of perspective?

I think the fundamental difference is this: (in the most general terms)

Black power is a term used to describe a movement whose principal aim was to support and build up pride in being African American. While it certainly had a racist component (blame Whitey etc) it's purpose was not built around the subjugation and denigration of other races.

White Power, on the other hand, while containing many of the same elements (building and maintaining pride in a white culture, protecting an identity) has as its dominant theme the denigration and subjugation of other races as a principal purpose. This element is particularly visible in the White Power movement.

That being said, I think both groups contain disturbing 'jingoistic' and fascistic tendencies and elements that overpower them in the public eye.

At some point, as a species, we are really going to have to get past this 'race as identity', thing.

It really isn't that important. Culture, yes. race ... no. And they are not the same, although they are intertwined.

Is this honky serious?

Then, why is it still called "Black Power" and not "African-American Power"?

Now you're just being difficult... You left out Colored Power, Negro Power, etc...

But at least African-Americans use the American part of their hyphenated description....

Russians(-Americans), Italian(-Americans), Serbian(-American) etc., etc., just say Italian, Russian, Serbian, etc.....:dunno:

Can't lie m/p....that shit was funny....

But are you being racist when you say that?:o

I don't think so.
No.
Definitely not.

Then, why is it still called "Black Power" and not "African-American Power"?

That's actually a very good point.
I remember when it was negro power, then colored power, but it never evolved past black power.
Wonder why.

I can't speak for everyone; but I think that the groups you mentioned leave out the "American" part of the description because it goes without saying (it should be assumed).

Unless someone has an accent that makes their lineage completely obvious; depending on the person, it could conceivably be difficult to be able to tell what their heritage is.

What happened to just being American?

Hmmm...wonder why. Could it be because of a little thing called context which makes your use of the word 'honky' here different from a racist use of it??:1orglaugh:rofl2:

Y/W in advance for that TOC....:1orglaugh m/p walked right into that one.

Again, why are the terms 'in front' and 'in behind' a matter of perspective?:o

No we say I'm an American of Serbian ancestry/heritage. No need to use some PC hyphenated baloney.

One would say American first then if asked you add "of Serbian ancestry/heritage".

(Watch this...lol)

So, under what circumstances would this necessity to further identify one's self present itself?:o

If you born in America - you are American
England - you are English
germany - German
Krapistan - Krapistani

Your heritage may be Bosno-Indian-austral-Russian-Faroe Island-ese, but you are of the country you are born in; or the country whose nationality to take. If I took Canadian citizenship, for example, I would describe myself as Canadian.

plain and fucking simple
