Queshun about rasizzem (racism)

guitarnnblack

My friends like my Freeones thong.
I guess its time for That Great African American Actor Morgan Freeman to put a rest to this topic.......again.

...well said.

On a related though I too have been troubled over this question; there are no white actor awards, or white history month, there are no white scholarships (that I have found)... as a matter of fact the average white male is screwed.
I agree that the only way to stop racism is to end all forms of it... but honestly, will that ever happen?

Remember that saying, "Sticks and stones will break my bones but words will never hurt me."

Personally, I don't care what color you are, as long as you obey the law and do your duty like anyone else.Everyone is equal before the law, or at least it should be, and by that law alone we are all judged and punished.

I wonder who came up with that term. A lot of black people I know hate it so it leads me to believe that it was possibly concocted by someone who isn't black.

It varies on the basis of where people of African ancestry reside in America. I was told by a southern black in a poli-sci class who had migrated north that older blacks in the South prefer "negro," while northern blacks tend to prefer "black," while still in other areas of America they prefer "African American." I am not bullshitting you either on this. Of course this was just one black person and a few hours discussion, so...

I believe the census also has a number of terms for black Americans.

If you have full access to Jstor this is an interesting article on the transformation of these terms:

As far as me, I prefer 'Caucasian," Caucasian American' or 'White Devil...' :elaugh:

Yeah..uh agree or disagree, the theory goes that over the course of US history, television, awards, etc., etc., most everything was de facto white this or that anyway.

Hence the reason for things like black sports leagues ala Negro League, etc. ..

Freeman is saying, there shouldn't be a need for this. He's right but the reality is there was...

I mean, why should we need to have doors with locks on them and homes with alarms on them?? It's obvious if people didn't steal this wouldn't be necessary..but they do ergo these are.

That's a pretty good read. Thanks! I knew someone on here would come up with something eventually. Honestly, I was expecting it to be Ulysses. :1orglaugh

Exactly! It amazes me how people all of a sudden have memory lapses about this stuff. I agree that there really isn't a strong a need for it now like there was before; however, tradition and old habits die hard. The thing about a tradition dying is that it doesn't comeback once its gone. This can either be a good or a bad thing depending on whose perspective you are looking at it from.

And it gets even more complicated when African Africans come into the mix. Hell, I've met people from every part of the African continent during my studies and even they are not firm on what terms/names they find appropriate and what is offensive or not politically correct. Generally, though, from my experience they identify with whichever nation they are indigenous to.

one of the major problems with the term african-american is that it misused and misleading...there's white people who are african, for example, what if they became U.S. citizens, technically they could be called african-americans and it wouldn't be wrong :2 cents:

Morgan Freeman is full of shit, man.

Morgan's former high school only until very recently still had a segregated prom. I think he has a different perspective than most people around, especially those of who are not familiar with Southern culture.

Distinction; They are technically referred to as Afrikaners. So the correct description and distinction would be Afrikaner-American.:2 cents:
