Read/Unread posts

Jeep!

When I grow up I’m gonna be a mod
Am I the only one getting issues with the board not knowing what is and isn't read? I keep refreshing the page, and still seeing posts I've viewed marked as 'unread' with the little orange symbol beside them - even if I'm the one who posted in the thread last. It's a bit of a nuisance since I use that orange button to go to the newest post in the thread to save time, and now it's pretty much lost all use. Anyone else getting this?

The one and only.
Nope. Try body slamming your computer or dousing it in gasoline. Of those two always works for me.

I think I'm just gonna have to periodically nuke the forum with the "Mark all read" function.

Not sure how you're navigating through the threads, but I use the tabs (or whatever you want to call them) at the top of the page just above the thread title [Freeones Talk] etc. Instead of using back space etc.

Maybe try that :dunno:

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
I just middle-click the threads so they open in different tabs, and when I get to the bottom of the forum page I refresh the page. Although, sometimes, it'll tell me that there are unread posts in the thread, and it lists me as the last poster. :crash:

Conspiracy...
I'm getting that problem, as well.

Every once is a great while I will get some threads that should be marked as read that aren't, but it's a pretty rare occurrence.

I keep getting that problem in threads that I post in. It keeps registering my posts as new :dunno:

No problem here. But I do get that problem sometimes on one or two other forums :)

I don't think this is a browser issue, this is a Database/board issue.

I disagree :D

If the board shows new posts, that information is gather from the board database. All the browser does is display the information. If the information is faulty, that's a database problem, if it was a browser problem, it would be constant, and every user of the browser would experience the bug. Trust me, I work with databases on a daily basis, and this is something that effects a number of sites.

^^It's not as 'simple' as that IMO. I've had the same experience on a few other boards, whilst other users have resolved the(ir) issue by a browser re-install, clean out of cache, corruption of cookies et al. So no, I don't 'trust you' :D

Well, you're certainly entitled to your opinion, but you're wrong. Taking all of those steps will help with rendering the changes, but the problem is not that the new posts aren't being shown, it's that people are getting "false alarms", cache, cookies, and all of that stuff deal with session information, and the database handles stuff like content (posts). The DB sends a message that there is new information, it's not something that a browser can make up.
