Red ring killed my xbox should I buy a PS3 or Elite

My Xbox died yesterday after a 4 year run my question is should I buy a PS3 or buy an Elite? I only want to buy one and fanboy opinons aside which one is better for games. I was all set to buy an Elite but then I heared good things about Uncharted 2 and it would be good to finally play MGS4. But then L4D2 is coming and I am still to play ODST. What do you guys think? :helpme:

they extended the warranty.......get a crate sent out so you can get it fixed than you dont have to buy anything.......Im on my 4th 360 right now.

Call up Microsoft. They will fix it for free. Just make sure you take your Hard Drive out when you send it out!

do it. why pay for a new one when they will fix it?
i have only had it once (knock knock knock on wood) and i went online to expedite the whole process,packaged,shipped,fixed,returned and back to playing in less than 7 days.
but i also own PS3 so i wasn't too dead in the water without a gaming system.

The warranty was extended but only 3 yrs all together so if this is indeed a 4 yr old 360 from launch than they wont fix it.As far as what to do,its get a ps3hands down. If youre looking for the better exclusives and coverage of all genre's the xbox falls flat......

Uncharted1 and 2 covering the action/adventure,Gran turismo racing,MLB the show which makes MLB2k look like trash regardless is on ps3,killzone2 which is the best shooter outside of Call of dookie.Demon Souls which cant stay on shelves does your action RPG'ing. Resistance series is good as any Halo in my opinion. MAG looks to be the next great online shooter concept. God of War3 in March and GodofWAR remastered,Metalgear,Motorstorm1 and 2, LittleBIG planet.......I'll stop there,sorry but all that be-littles xbox its not even fair. Plus you wont have to dish out $50 every year for live.

I'd go for the PS3 at this point. Sell your busted 360 on Ebay for parts. Trade in whatever games you have for PS3 games and be done with it. I've got two Xbox 360s, one is starting to act weird as it freezes games at random parts while the other is still working, but should it stop working then I'll be getting a PS3. It'll be tough as I love Mass Effect but that's really the only game that I'll be missing out on.

Yes Mass effect is a monster of a game and hopefully 2 will be no different....Im keeping my 360 for mass effect2 and i play NHL10 on 360 but thats it........when the next gen in consoles starts getting heated up in 2 or 3years or so,gamestop will have a bonus if you trade your 360 in for reserving new hardware. Thats what I did with my original xbox.....I had 360 reserved 6months in advance and made $20 payments on it here and there till it launched.

Just call them up and saw you have the fatal red rings and see what happens. Given how much Microsoft is in hot water concerning the problems people have had with these systems, I don't see why they are not going to be turning you away.

i'd just buy the cheap xbox360 arcade unit for $199. you might find it for even less.

you already have the xbox hard drive ...so that'd be the best option, imo.


you'd most likely get one with a Jasper chipset, too. those are much more reliable.

When I called them up about my 3rd console breaking the dude was very,very meticulous when going over the details of whether my xbox was still under warranty. Its a 3 year warranty from time of purchase.However,
theres 2 types of failures xbox's are experiencing people arent stating this....Theres the RROD w/ 3 red rings and theres the E74 error. The one with 3 red rings is covered for 3 years period,he made this clear. If you have a screen come up when you fire up your fucked console saying "E74 error contact microsoft" than thats only covered for 1 extra year after purchase.

I had the E74 error on my latest fucked system,but since it was my 3rd console it was within the 2 yrs for the E74 failure. So if its def a launch console than forget it. They do however let you send it in and pay $100 to have the prob fixed if its indeed out of warranty.

Thats a rip-off I wouldnt do that. Like was suggested,you can get an arcade box and use your current hardrive. Youve already played what youve wanted since youve had it for 4 years so if the thing had decent games due out present to future than I'd keep swinging xbox......as an xbox fan can you live without Halo,Gears,Forza,Left4Dead or whatever thats the real question here.

Thanks for all the advice. I loved mass effect, too bad its only xbox and pc. I loved playing as male shepard - who I would always make a jerk. It's probably the best voice acting I have seen in a game. It's a launch xbox so I don't think they'll fix it. I think you guys are right i'll look into an xbox arcade since I have a hard drive, 4 controllers and I do love the shooters - L4D2 will be :eek:. Maybe i'll get a PS3 next month when I get paid :nanner:. But I definitely need a PS, Uncharted 2 looks amazing!

Yeah. I've known of people who went through Four RRODs. After the first one was fixed for free he started buying the cheapest 360 and just putting his Hard Drive in that one. Sell the controllers and other little odds and ends he already had and get some money back.

The guy I spoke to when I had my experience I had to keep spelling over and over my name. Then I had to spell over and over my address to ship the box to. When all was said and done he misspelled my name and screwed up the address somehow, it still came, but damn.

All he did for me was troubleshoot and then took my information to send me the box.

That was about two years ago.

Yes I do love Gears, Forza, Mass Effect and many other games that come out on the 360. Despite some problems the system might have I still choose it over the others.

Correct me if I'm wrong wasnt GTA san andreas like that? Wasnt that on ps2 for 6 months and than xbox 1 finally got it.....i dont know theres been a few big titles to do that limited exlusive thingy.

Like you said,maybe get a ps3 when you can than you can catch up on all the killer ps3 games youve been missing and still be there for masseffect2,left4dead and maybe gears 3 if thats gonna be for 360....Halo4 maybe,who knows what the future will bring.

No. The PS3 for Mass Effect 2 is all rumors and hearsay. Bioware seemed to have denied anything about it being on PS3.

As for Grand Theft Auto if you remember Xbox had that double package deal for GTA III and GTA VC. San Andreas came out for the PS2 and, oh, around a year later it came out for the Xbox. PC also has it.

Bioshock was exclusive. Now it is on PS3.

Usually if it is a Microsoft published game and under their studios it is sure bet that there will not be any multi-platforming going on.

Same with Sony for a few odds and ends. Basically Sony and Microsoft kind of butt heads at times.
