Republicans Fly the White Flag & Concede on Shutdown

Well well. 24 Billion dollars lost by the "ultra-conservatives" (how ironic) and their favorability shot to shit not to mention the 800,000 Americans that didn't go to work for 3 weeks and another 1 million who worked without getting their paycheck because a small group of dickhead republicans felt it was a casualty that they saw as worthwhile to demand that they get what they want. Bus alas, their efforts were pointless because they accomplished nothing and ended up folding like a 3 legged chair. This republican regime wasted money and time and people's welfare and Obamacare is just as it was before the bullshit.

So to those of you who supported this stupid move, what now? Even Frank Burns err, Ted Cruz backed down and conceded defeat. So we get to do this all over again in February right? I'm sure the right will have another weak attempt at a hold out.

My suggestion for the right. Take some of your money and hire a few thousand pollsters to travel all over the country and ask as many Americans what they want from their government and what their concerns are. Then take all that information and have a big meeting and share it with the party.

That would be about the ONLY way that you guys will ever have a fucking clue as to what the majority of Americans want. You certainly can see what they don't want based on the last 2 presidential elections. So it might be a good time to start learning what it is that the people DO want because it is VERY clear they have not a clue among them.

"We fought the good fight; we just didn't win," Boehner told a radio station in his home state of Ohio.

Republican Sen. Kelly Ayotte of New Hampshire called the House GOP tactic of tying Obamacare to the shutdown legislation "an ill-conceived strategy from the beginning, not a winning strategy."

The final vote in the House: 285-144 Senate: 81-18. I hope that's foreshadowing the Democratic majorities in the next congress.

yup the debt ceiling will be raised now and for the foreseeable future, in the end, both sides have no choice in the matter, the US treasury needs to borrow from the private federal reserve bank of NY in order to pay the bills and both sides of this false left right paradigm know it but that does not mean that they cannot put on a good show for the people in the process

I usually would never say "I told you so" but these fucking idiots deserve to have their noses rubbed in it. When you take away 1.8 million americans income over part politics you are most certainly not representing the people. talk about impeachment.

Last night I saw Ted Cruz speaking about this and he said something more frightening than anything else he's said so far: "I am a conservative. I am an American. I am a creationist. I am willing to fight to the end no matter what anyone else thinks."

so the guy doesn't care what the people want. He believes the earth is 10,000 years old and he says he's a conservative before he's an american. i just wish he could run for president. it would be fun to watch him crash and burn just like Bachmann and Perry did, and all the rest of them actually. :)

Obama was the one who conceded. Now if he would just leave office.

hahaha how was it that Obama conceded when the right got only one minor single thing out of the entire charade? verification of income to get approval for the ACA was the only thing they got. All of the republicans are admitting defeat here.

as far as Obama leaving office, maybe if you and the outdated republican party would stop being so blind and regardless to the wants and needs of the american people he would never have been in office to begin with.

So the GOP should declare victory after this complete cluster fuck? Compared to the House Republicans vs Obama, Pee Wee Herman could have put up a better fight against Mike Tyson (when he was in his prime).

Will, down my way, we call what happened over the past few weeks "a good old fashioned Southern fried ass whoopin."

The republicans wanted The ACA defunded and that didn't happen. So what exactly did Obama concede?

It is truly remarkable that every time Will E. posts in a political thread he gets smacked by someone. At some point one might think he'd give up. After all, the definition of insanity is doing the same thing over and over and expecting a different result.

What is it that we're agreeing to disagree on? You said you wanted people to die. Mass murders, in fact. I pointed that out, and you want to agree to disagree on what?

By the way, I'm not trolling. You obviously don't have a firm grasp on the concept of the internet. You should figure out what trolling really is before you use words incorrectly.

And I didn't :crybaby: I said that was enough for me. I took a break, now I'm back. See? You just don't grasp facts.

How about answering the dozens and dozens of questions about your posts? You are just deflecting and not answering. Makes you a lot closer to a troll than I am.

Now, do the predictable thing. Quote only part of this, the part you want to answer, and use a smiley of some kind, and say no. Your post will likely look like this:

Makes you a lot closer to a troll than I am.

 no...

If this is going to be your new motto you're REALLY going to have to shut the fuck up about democrats, socialists, Obama, pro-choice, gun control among a host of other things and people. You should agree to disagree then, since bitching about those things is pretty much all you do, stop about 99.9999% of your posting.

Not so fast. I know one person that will get all of her back/furlough pay for not coming to work.

A lot of people will. Funny thing is, Republicans are the ones who always rail against things like paying farmers not to grow food, etc., yet through their actions they are now going to pay Federal employees backpay for the two weeks they didn't work.

Okay, not funny 'Ha Ha', but you get the idea.

ok back pay is great and all but what about those people who live paycheck to paycheck and a weekly paycheck is what buys them and their families food and puts gas in their cars?

bahodeme

Closed Account
Some agencies offered loans thru their Credit Unions for all the employees for that time, even if they did not belong to the Credit Union. Most were no interest for at least 90 days. Also they were entitled for unemployment benefits and other services if needed. If the worker received any of the services and received their full salary, then they had to repay it. Hence the retropay. Also when (not if) another shutdown occurs, and the employees that were sent home were not paid, agencies will deem their entire staff essential next time.

No argument here. Just observing the wastefulness of it all.

So much money went into making the shutdown happen (things like printing signs saying "We're Closed" and barricading entrances to Parks and having programmer's update websites). I think the ballpark price tag somebody put on the total cost of shutting everything down is $24B. Who knows how accurate that figure is, but there's an additional cost in that all the backpay being given to people for the period of time they weren't working is essentially "wasted" because they didn't get anything accomplished during that time. It's not a waste to the people who receive the pay, but it is a waste of money nonetheless.

I suppose it's possible this was factored into the $24B total, but my impression is that that total was more of a direct cost, not indirect. And there's the as yet undetermined cost in the long term due to the almost certain hit to the U.S.'s credit rating, higher interest on loans and so on. The final cost will be impossible to determine, but suffice it to say, it's going to be a lot, and a lot of good could have been done with that money.

^ yes thats me!
That $24 billion is the damage S&P estimates the shutdown did to economic growth. It is an estimate and there's a lot of damage that isn't in that figure.
