why not just have car races... the car has to keep up with the camel and rider anyways so why not eliminate the excess and have an old fashioned drivin derby?
Sorry for the huge bump, but this story just appeared on BBC World News - the robots are now actually racing the camels.
There is a serious side to this story - the robots will put a halt to children being smuggled out of South Asia to be used as camel jockeys (some as young as three). As of last year, Aid workers estimated there were up to 40,000 child jockeys working across the Gulf.
Under an agreement that UNICEF had concluded in June 2005 between the UN and a host of governments, the UAE was recently obliged to repatriate over 100 children to Pakistan who were being illegally used as camel jockeys in the Emirates. The countries involved in this agreement are Pakistan, Bangladesh, Sudan and Mauritius. A surprise omission in the list seems to be India because it is hard to believe that children are not smuggled out of India to be used as camel jockeys in the UAE.
