Save energy - just look away now

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.

Black belt in Cock-Fu
Would be hard to watch porn and have sex at the same time with the TV constantly fading out!

Ace Bandage

The one and only.
"If the viewer looks away from the screen for a couple of seconds the image slowly fades out but the audio continues to play."

So, if you're eating popcorn and look away or start making out with your girlfriend, the screen fades? I see the benefits of saving energy, but I don't think this is the way to do it. Why don't they just make appliances more energy efficient?

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
Plus it seems to me that constantly having to cycle brightness would use a lot more energy then just leaving it on. It's really only effective if you're someone that spends a lot of time with the TV on for background noise. In fact, why not just make that an optional setting? One click on the remote puts it in dim-mode for when you are doing something else.

The other thing is that all this advanced technology uses more resources and energy to produce, so even if it saves when it's running doesn't is kind of defeat the point if the manufacture really doesn't off set anything?

The simplest and best solution is just to use less. Here's a bright idea: if you aren't paying attention to the TV, turn it off.

Of course that's the one that no one wants to do.

Well these are really not much more than concept models at the moment, and I am sure you will have an option to just switch the technology off if its not to your liking. Yes your point regarding just switching off is fair, but I often have the TV on (working on a laptop) not always looking at the picture but generally following whats going on.

Technology is like that, manufacturers constantly make electricals more efficient but we constantly demand more and more features.

Yes might have a negative impact!

My Penis Is Dancing!
When the story started off with these words, I knew the story was going to be so full of advanced technical jargon, I never would have had a chance to understand:

"Even the simple act of illuminating our homes requires power."
