Science to 'stop age clock at 50'

Why not? Your body's like a vehicle. When the brakes go out on your car you replace them. When your knees go out you can replace them. But with all this techno stuff going on I'm wondering where the hell my flying car is?

Why is everybody always trying to mess with the natural order of things? Man is not meant to live a long life. You are born and then you die. It's one thing when trying to cure a disease but it's another when you're trying to seek immortality. Replacement body parts should only be for people that actually need them not for people who just want to continue doing back flips. If you want to do a back flip then eat healthier.

Who is to say man isn't meant to live a long life? If we go by your logic man should have been dead by the time they were in their late 20s or early 30s because you don't want to mess with the natural order of things.

As George Carlin said, The whole secret to life is . . . not dying!

Not necessarily considering that most of the people centuries past who died in their 20s and 30s didn't die from natural causes but rather from diseases. I'm talking about people who are replacing body parts for selfish reasons. The world is already overpopulated, we don't need selfish people taking up more space and the secret to life is to live life to the fullest in the time you've been given.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
If people start living longer the world is going to have to come to an agreement that no two people can have more than one or two children, which is probably not going to be agreed to for a long time.

It's called Negligible Senescence.

Or, at least that's what they call it in various animals found in nature that don't appear to have the genes for aging - that is to say, as far as observed, they don't die from old age. Their ability to reproduce doesn't diminish, and they tend to continually grow. Giant lobsters and 200-year-old fish and such.

It's really quite an interesting area of science. While it would be the sort of Holy Grail of medical science, I share the concerns above that an end to old age would be catastrophic to the human population. Unless there was state-run birth control (not necessarily talking about the pill), and that'd likely be just as disastrous.

I have a better idea. Why bother stopping people at a certain age but still allowing death to occur? No this is wrong, why not make the entire planet immortal and then sterilize all the women. Wouldn't that be a much better world? At least then we could wallow in our own arrogance and self pity forever. Just think of it; sex without fear of pregnancy or disease. No bratty children running around annoying everyone who isn't their parent. Cancer and AIDS could be relegated to the level of a mild headache. That's the world I want to live in. A world in which when stabbed or shot, or beaten severely . . . my neighbour will say "thanks for that" then proceed to get up dust himself off and then continue to bang on the wall at 3am. You see it's better for all of us. He can continue to annoy me and I can take out all of my aggression on him without fear of repercussion. Perfect!

I guess the only thing we would need to fear is The Kurgan. He needs to be feared and respected being a man of such power, he may even need to be worshipped as the god he so obviously is.

HAIL KURGAN!! Ruler of the Earth . . . bringer of all death and destruction.

Pain heals, chicks dig scars, Freeones lasts forever
We already are at population levels which are totally unsustainable and the curve of growth in population is straight up.Living longer which we already do and better survival rates for new borns all sounds wonderfull but has it's consequences as well which mankind has and will probably continue to just ignore.

It's why we have such a coming catastrophe whith climate change looming.Technology has enabled us to explode the population, but the planet can't take it.Maybe could take a billion or two people living the way we do with such enviormental impacts but certainly can't take the almost 7 billion on its way to 9 billion we have created.
