Thoughts of the referendum on Scottish independence? I will say that other than the U.S national anthem, the Scottish national anthem is the best national anthem by far

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
If they want it, let them go for it....if they need to fight for it though, America better stay out of it.

Show me a country where the elected representatives aren't dickheads? But terrorist sympathisers? No.

PS. Iceman - The French National anthem is pretty rousing;)

I don't know why Scotland or Ireland would want to be independent from UK/England. Both are small countries that rely heavily on England's economy. But if thats what the general population wants and votes for then they have a right to be an Independent nation.

That would be a terrible mistake from the Scotts to vote "YES".

The Scottish referendum will embolden Spain's Catalonia and Basque region to push for independence as well. Catalonia has scheduled a referendum for November 9 but it has been ruled unconstitutional by the Spanish courts

Is somewhere outhere.
As a Scot myself I personally couldn't give a shit. Although being able to vote on Miss Freeones has been way far more appealing ;)

There are many books on the topic of Irish Independence. I finished this one not too long ago, The Donegal Awakening.
I'm not saying it is the best on the topic, just one I happen to recently read. It, as well as any of hundreds that are out there could help educate you and increase your understanding of why they may want Independence.
(Also, about 200 some-odd years ago there was another country that declared independence whose economy was tied to Britain's. Not an exact match, but discussion worthy)

As an American, I tend to agree with you.

What's wrong with suporting the Palestinian people ? Unless you consider the whole population of Palestine to be terrorists, supporting the Palestinian people is no equal to suporting Hamas.

A Scottish government spokesman said it was wrong to collectively punish the people of Gaza for the actions of their government.
He added: "The Scottish government supports the view that long-term peace in the Middle East between Israel and Palestine is best served by a two-state solution and we urge all parties to engage constructively, proportionally and within the obligations imposed upon them by international law, to find a peaceful way forward."
Is that equal to supporting Hamas in your book ?

Terrorist ? Really ?

I know that since the fall of CCCP, Foreign Policy has become terribly complicated to retards like you you since it's not "Us against Them" or West vs East" anymore, it's a little bit complicated 'cause it's not just good guys and bad guys anymore, it's not just White or Black, since many shades of grey have appeared.

Bashar El Assad : Well, he's a dictator so he must be one of the bad guys, right ? But he's fighting ISIS, so he's a good guy, right ?
Free Syrian Army : They are fighting a dictator so they must be good guys, right ? But they refused to fight ISIS so they must be bad guys, right ?
:suspicious:

When you're immediate response is to swear and call people names, who can tell when you're being sarcastic or just being offensive?

I'm still quite sure where I lean on this, though a 'yes' vote will mean a headache for me as I'll have to figure out what the hell happens to my passport. On the one hand, I like idea of bigger unions because they can play stronger roles on the world stage. In reality though, this leads to consolidation of power, which pretty much always leads to worse instead of better. I like the idea of the EU or the US federal government, but in reality I'd like them both to be much, much smaller.

It'll be a kick in a lot of asses if Scotland votes yes and in the short term I reckon there's no way they won't suffer for it. But in the longer term, they'll have a government representing 5 million people - in theory, far more responsive and accountable than a government under another government of an additional 55 million people under another government of 500 million people. Though if they join the EU, they're only eliminating the smaller of those two layers.

Size and such I don't think play nearly as big of roles as some would think - Scotland wouldn't be the smallest European country by far and many of the small ones are doing juuuuust fine (just look at per capita anythings of Luxembourg compared to anywhere else...that place has barely a million people).
