second hand smoke

Danglyparts

FreeOnes turned me straight!
what is your take on smoking? second hand or otherwise, what is your stance on the link between cigarettes and cancer or just death in general? feel free to post evidence of your stance or just blow smoke out your ass ;) either way, it's pretty much the thought of whose side are you on? the cigarette companies or the anti smoking lobbiest?

personally i think the anti smokers have taken it too far (have you seen their disgusting ass comercials?)

was gonna post a poll, but i guess i took one second too long

People should stay away from it if they do not like it and stop whining.

Next on the chopping block will be alcohol if smoking is allowed to be stamped out.

second hand smoke, unless you work at a pub in Ireland or something like that, is bullshit

There's nothing more disgusting than having to breath in someone else's smoke. Until the smoking ban in public places over here, I rarely went out to eat because you'd get some antisocial asshole puffing away in your direction while you're trying to eat.

Hell, opening the door at my grandmother's house means a huge cloud of yellowish smoke drifts out. And the nice white paint we put on her walls are now all yellow and dirty looking, the carpet is yellowed, all her belongings smell like smoke, any clippings or paper she's saved turns yellow...it's really nasty.

And I think the ads are perfectly fine. People need to KNOW what they're doing to their bodies. If people think it's just a story the anti-tobacco groups are telling people, go to your country coroner or a university's anatomy lab and ask to see a body of a smoker. They'll be happy to oblige.

My great-grandfather smoked cigarettes well before I was born up until he went to the nursing home. He eventually died from Alzheimer's. My great-grandmother chewed chewing tobacco up until she died. My grandfather smoked a lot but he stopped on his own when I was born because he didn't want cigarette smoke around me, he's still alive. I've got tons of cousins who smoke as well and I've been around them plenty of times.

However, I'm also not naive to think that smoking doesn't have consequences. If you don't want to be around people who smoke then don't go around them. If you do smoke then you should be considerate enough of people that don't want to be around smoking.

i personally find cigarettes disgusting, but that's a personal thing...i don't like the smell or taste of them...as far as health goes, does it really matter? if you're lucky you'll get old and haggard regardless of how you lived your life...i know plenty of people who've done everything right and exercised, ate healthy and ended up with some form of cancer or other major disease and bad health later in life and contrarily i know people who've lived very hard lives with lots of chemical abuse and hard labor who've grown very old and still been healthy and functional...the end result is the same and you can never say for sure how you're going to turn out in the long run anyway other than that you will die old and worn out if you're lucky...things like cigarettes take such a long time to make a major impact on life expectancy that they're really not worth making fuss over IMO...

I smoked for years and have finally managed to stop. I can't really understand why I smoked in the first place. It doesn't taste good, it makes your hair and clothes smell, and it does your health no good at all. It does not relax you, it only takes away the cravings that cause you to be tense in the first place. It does not help you concentrate - again this is just the removal of the cravings for nicotine. It took me years to work this out, and if you smoke, I recommend Allen Carr's easyway - http://allencarr.com/

I don't mind people smoking as long as it's not in an environment where children are present. My city has a ban on smoking indoor anywhere and I don't really think that's fair, I believe there should at least be a smoking/ non-smoking section in bars or places where you wouldn't normally take a small child like Hooters or other sports bars and restaurants who cater to an older demographic. Personally, I don't like when people smoke around me and almost everyone I know is the same way, but just cause a few people don't like it, doesn't mean the smokers should suffer in the places I mentioned. You should be able to enjoy a smoke while watching the game at Hooters if you want.

I couldn't give a rats ass if you smoke. Smoke yourself to death, I don't care.
However, if you find the need to smoke in front of me or a fellow non-smoker, then we reserve the right to literally piss over every inch of your being, followed up with encasing your head in a jar with a fat man's fart after he eats a jar of pickled eggs.

I think people should have the right to smoke, however not in public places, ie. restaurants, bars, etc. I mean not unless us non-smokers are allowed to sprinkle chemicals into a smokers food and drink in retaliation for the chemical exposure we're being subjected to. :2 cents:

My grandmother died from second hand smoke- she never smoked a day in her life, but my grandpa did and he refused to smoke outside (back then, they didn't really know that smoking was bad, it was just unpleasant to be around) - fast forward 35 years and she's on her deathbed from lung cancer. That shit DOES kill other people, so yeah, non smokers should have the right to walk around outside their home and breathe in fresh clean air.

what are everyone's thoughts on having specific stores/restaurants/bars that are smoking and others that are not?

that would be fun. the people who hate smoke just wont go to them, and the people who do will.

i wonder. would they make or lose money,

If people don't like smoke then they don't have to go to the places that allow it.

People said they would go to places more often if there were no smoking in them. After they started enforcing the new rules, they found out the people lied.
Businesses folded, moved, or downsized.
People are liars.

There should be smoking areas like there used to be.
If people don't like it they can whine somewhere else.

I don't smoke, but freedom is for everyone or no one.

what you see as freedom, others see as a health issue. If smokers are allowed everywhere, then I should be allowed to go put small amounts of arsenic, formaldehyde, ammonia and hydrogen cyanide in peoples food and drinks. Its the exact same thing.

I smoke one cigarette or two a week, so i don't think i can be considered to be on the smokers side. We live on the second hand something era and i suspect that it is just an excuse to distract us from what is really unhealthy such as pre-processed food which are full of chemicals, preservatives, colorants and made of dubious origins ingredients, fluoride water, excessive use of parfumes and deodorants and lots of other poisoned shit. Teach your children not to puff straight into the nostrils of the next = teach them respect and stop pretending that some second hand cig smoke is worse than walking in the center of NYC or than being on a blind date with a guy who just sinked into a swimming pool full of Aqua Velva LOL

then what do you think about my idea? have designated places (specific bars/stores/restaraunts) that allow it, and others that do not?
