Should the Rich Pay More Tax?

The best thing to do would be remove any tax on income and tax CONSUMPTION instead.

The more you "stuff" you want, the more tax you pay. In other words, the more you take out, the more you put in.This would most likely be above and beyond standard sales tax.

That way, everyone is responsible for their own choices.

Certain items like milk, bread, eggs, etc. should be non-taxable.

If a baby mama wants a big screen instead of milk for her kid she's gonna pay a premium for that decision. So maybe, just maybe, she will do the right thing and make the differentiation between a "want" and a "need" and buy her kid some leche instead.

And in that fashion, high earners probably would pay more tax because they are more likely to buy more "stuff." However, if they earn a lot but don't buy a lot of crap, then they aren't really taxing the industrial/retail infrastructure so why should they pay more taxes?

This is what happens in the UK- goods and services are taxed at 15% (soon to rise) and this tax is built in to the selling price. So you see a TV priced £299 and not "£260 plus tax"
Foodstuffs (not prepared meals) children's clothing and printed material are not taxed but practically everything else is.This is felt by many to be an unfair tax as it falls harder on the low paid.But it's easy to collect.
We have income tax and other forms of extortion too.

Taxes should be cut across the board. They waste most of that money anyways so why give it to them . As for taxing the rich more...the top 5% in the US pay more than half of all the income taxes already with the top 50% paying more than 96% of all the income taxes. Why would you tax the bottom 50 more when they dont contribute hardly anything anyways. Quit overspending and wasting then you wont need more taxes.

Of course we should tax the rich at a much higher percentage than we currently are and we should close all tax loopholes.

We should also tax properties and investments for churches and "nonprofit" hospitals.

California's Prop 13 should be overturned by the Supreme Court immediately.

People should pay a "user fee" for SUVs right now. The luxury tax credit that the Bush Administration rammed down the throats of Congress during their first term was AN EMBARRASSMENT.

Bush tax cuts need to be overturned immediately. Only his idiocy and Republican Congresspersons think tax cuts during war time is feasible for a society. Never has our country cut taxes during wartime.

Taxes are the price of civilization and our taxes dollars SHOULD BE SPENT on our country, not on Iraq or some other country.

i think thats unfair because they work really hard. I'm personally not rich but I think thats messed up to tax them more just because they probably have worked harder than me to get were there at.

Don't know if I agree with that. You want to punish someone because they were born rich. We can't help what we are born into and everyone can't be a success, so I don't think the Gov't should be in the game of equality, at least not in this case. :2 cents:

No. I don't care how much money anyone makes - no one should have to more than 25% of their income in taxes. It's funny that a lot of Democrats are always pushing for more taxes, but when they earn a ton they seem to miss paying the appropriate amount of taxes.

Former Senator Tom Daschle is a great example.

Inheritance tax is theft.I earned my money and paid tax on every penny.When my time comes and I have no further use for it I want my kids to have it.I feel I should be able to dispose of my legally acquired wealth in any way I choose.

Yes they should be taxed more. I am not saying they should be taxed double or anything, maybe five or ten percent more than they are. Maybe that's not enough. But it's a start.
