Should weed be legalized?

I don't smoke weed. But I have been known to partake of untaxed alcohol on occasion (the last time, in the company of a state trooper who was pouring from the same jar that I was). The government treats moonshine much the same as marijuana: with hypocrisy. At the very least, I feel that weed should be decriminalized... just like prostitution.

But we all know that the government is going to want its cut (by way of taxes). So the only issue I have is what sorts of controls and government bureaucracies might spring from this? Would the BATF take over, like with alcohol, or would the DEA just get bigger? (cause we all know, it's impossible for a government agency to ever get smaller).

But yeah, we're in a stupid situation. We lock up more of our own people than most any (developed) nation on earth. And a great percentage of those are for drug offenses. So now that we can see that the drug control policy used over the past 30 years hasn't worked, let's keep doing it, because the results might be different in the future. What is that called again? Oh yeah

Decriminalize pot. Continue to prosecute smugglers though. In fact, I would work to institute a fast track death penalty for major smugglers, corrupt law enforcement and money launderers. You start cooking dirty cops and millionaires in suits like Oscar Meyer weiners... I do believe you'll see more of a difference than locking up Cheech & Chong for having a fat one in their pockets.

Taxes. In order to regulate it you have to tax it. Hence you have to know who is producing the product. Do you really think growers are going to tell the feds and give in to taxation if they can still sell black market.

Reportedly the tobacco companies had fields set aside once to start growing it if it was made legal.Legal pot would be much cheaper even with taxes then it is currrently.The price now is due to thats its illegal.Yeah you still might get some small scale illegal stuff like you get with alcohol (moonshine etc) but overall the illegal buisness of pot selling would dry up once there was a place to get it legally at reasonable prices.

Just like prohibition I think.

When I want an opinion I want it from a well balanced person who has tried it and I will go with there views not someone who has just said "its bad , ban it " without giving it a go first :tongue:

And why should someone who hasn't tried it not have an opinion? People who have never drank alcohol have opinions about that. I personally have tried it, quite a bit in fact. I don't do it now. I haven't for many years. I do not like what it does to me. I do not understand the fascination of doing something that makes doing nothing and being stupid seem like fun.

I do drink but I drink beer because I like the taste of a good ale. I can go out all night and drink 3 or 4 beers and not be a raging idiot. Some people act fine on either substance while others should never do anything intoxicating ever.

Should weed be legal? Absolutely, but it will not affect me in the least.:2 cents::wave2:

A single beer will not make you drunk, you will still be able to drive safely. On te contrary a single joint of cannabis will make you high and you'll be unable to drive safely.

All drugs affect your mind, creating fake feelings, making you dangerous for yourself and for others. This is why they should all be banned.

i can still drive ok after a couple of joints plus alcahol gets people in trouble, who gets in much trouble after smoking some weed? most people would rather chill out after smoking a joint or two instead of causing mischief after a couple of beers!
