Foreigner?
I thought the same thing. I'm sitting there watching the video waiting for him to speak up but never did. Maybe the idiot was waiting for the foreigner to be laying on the floor with a bullet to the chest. Fucking dumb asswhen that guy reached into his jacket pocket for the mentos that could've ended terribly. that stupid clerk should've straightened that out immediately.
I gotta admit, that cop would have made me nervous too. He definitely was having a bad day before he came into the store. He thought the guy was stealing and was actually giving the guy a break but the whole thing was awkward. I think I heard the cop apologize.
A quick story: A few years ago I was driving to New Jersey and stopped in Delaware to get gas. I swiped my card at the pump, it came on then shut down immediately. Pay at the pump usually puts a hold on a certain amount like maybe 75 bucks regardless of the purchase.
I thought, I bet the card has been charged, called the bank and sure enough a hold was placed but no gas.
I decided to go into the store and tell the clerk that my card was charged but the pump didn’t turn on and try to resolve it inside thinking it was a pump issue.
The clerk or manager gets all aggressive and says “ I can’t help you, the pumps are the pumps” and I say “ they are subject to malfunction” she says “ I’m calling the cops” I am thinking, we have gone from a pump malfunction to calling the cops? Something is wrong here. I told her to call them. The cop pulls up, gets out and she immediately runs over to him pointing at me. He comes over and he seems very suspicious of me. Mind you, I am driving a nice sedan and I am wearing business attire. I don’t look homeless. At this point, in the cops mind and because the girl has convinced him of it, I am trying to steal gas.
He asks if he can turn the ignition to see the gas gauge, I agree. He asks if my gauge is working properly, I tell him to the best of my knowledge, yes.
It shows a quarter of a tank. He asks to see the owner’s manual, I retrieve it and hand it to him. He finds the tank capacity listed. He opens the trunk and says he wants to be sure no extra tanks are in the trunk. He calls in my tag and I am starting to get pissed, I have been here for an hour by now.
He asks me” Sir would you be willing to try your card at the pump again and I agree to try again. This time it works as it should, authorizes my card I pump the gas. The cop calculates based upon tank capacity and what my gauge read how much I should have to pump. I pump within a gallon of what he calculates and he is satisfied that I didn’t pump previously and try to say I didn’t get the gas which is what the girl has tried to convince him that I have done.
The cop goes to the girl and she says “ our pumps don’t malfunction” he must have put gas in someone else’s car beside him and they drove off before he came in..at this point I am getting really pissed and getting an attitude.
The cop finally says, I need to see video. I wait in the store for at least 30 more minutes while he is in the back watching camera video with the manager.
He comes out and says I really apologize, I saw you swipe the card, hang up the nozzle and walk into the store. No other car was filled up by you. He chewed the girl out saying pumps can malfunction and that she wasted his time and held me up from my trip by an hour or more. He gave me his card and direct number and said to call him if my card hadn’t been reimbursed the hold amount within 72 hours. A completely different attitude than his first suspicious attitude towards me.
I got a bit of satisfaction watching him chew out the twunt at the store but damn what a fucking hassle.
