A little excerpt from my new passion lol.

A close shave. A beginning
Space. Space is frictionless. What exactly does this mean? For the planet of Farce it could have meant everything or nothing. Moving into the Pretense system at a constant pace. A rock- If you could call such a monstrosity that. It appeared to move quite blissfully. Spinning- other fragments twirling around it's mass. A virtual ballerina in space. Completely ignorant of its fate.
Perhaps the inhabitants of the planet Farce where also ignorant? Drawing ever closer to their planet in perpetual motion.
The asteroid did not have the luxury of time- Time for the old questions. Who am I? Why do I exist? Where am I? What do I want? Where am I going? Existential matters which require time.
Time, that great predator. It had caught the asteroid. It impacted upon the planetary shield of Farce, Committing itself to oblivion. Its last thoughts if an asteroid could possess any. Forever lost to the void.
'That's the second one this month' Orion Stargazer was what one could only describe as a rather meticulous bureaucrat. Very fond of his paper work, he would tally every astrological event, no matter how insignificant- often to the great frustration of his peers.
'Meaning?' His fellow colleague. A man of few convictions, of few passions. Tired of his job at the planetary defense monitoring station. His current gig would not have made it, into his list of passions. 'I don't know. But two near fatal collisions in such a short space of time. It almost like the universe is out to get us' Cynus Skeptor raised an eyebrow. 'Orion. Not everything has some deeper mystical meaning. As a society we have moved past such crap. Its probably an asteroid field moving close by.' Pretender society was now at a technological level, it no longer searched for spiritual answers. No longer was their a belief in higher powers. Science was now god.
'Yes. Your probably right Cynus. Forgive me. I will record the incident in the log and begin a scan for others' Orion motions to the air in front of him. The motion is a box like movement with his two hands. A screen appears in front of him. He starts to touch the screen, entering information into the vast repository- the central planetary computer network.
'You do that. Damn if we where vigilant. This would not have occurred' Looks out the window. It appears the two monitors are in high orbit on board a space station. There are other stations of smaller design. They appear to be formed into a defensive line around the planet. Silvery and resplendent. Refracting sunlight, their space station looks rather sleek and somewhat deadly. The smaller platforms are basically orbital cannons- Mass accelerators. They propel huge kinetic slugs at high velocities. 'It's been months since we got to shoot something- the only perk of this damn boring job. I am dying to see this old application in action again. For this sort of thing definitely better than energy weapons- Well, probably not as showy.' He opens up a interface and starts scanning frantically. Almost as if he is looking for something to shoot. 'Its not so bad. We are doing a great service to our kind' Cynus Skeptor does what can only be considered a face palm. 'Orion. I have no doubt. No doubt that this is what you where born to do. Me on the other hand, I was destined for greater things. Greater things than being stuck on some glorified boy's toy- waiting for something to happen which rarely does.' Cynus Skeptor hails from a powerful clan on the homeworld. As does Orion Stargazer. However unlike Skeptor he is quite content with the position he finds himself in. 'Why can't this thing be automated?' He remembers sitting in history class. The topic that day was the Synthetic Unity. 'Actually I understand now' Orion Stargazer smiles. 'Yea it would require an artificial intelligence. And we know where that leads my friend.' Cynus sighs. 'Still wish I was planet side, gambling on the fortunes of the lesser races' The entirety of Pretender society, is engaged upon this past time. 'Chance and causality. Forces that even we, are not masters of' Orion Stargazer closes the computer window. Gets up of his seat. 'I am going to get something to eat. Do you require anything?'

Very fond of his paper work, he would tally every astrological event, no matter how insignificant- often to the great frustration of his peers. ‘Meaning?’ His colleague, a man of few convictions, of few passions. Tired of his job at the planetary defense monitoring station. This current gig wouldn’t make it, into his limited list of passions. ‘I don’t know. But two near fatal collisions. Within this time frame? It’s almost like the universe is out to get us’ Cynus Skeptor raised an eyebrow. ‘Orion. Not everything has some deeper mystical meaning. As a society we have moved past such crap. It’s probably an asteroid field moving close by.’ Pretender society was now at such a technological level, they no longer searched for spiritual answers. No longer did they believe in higher powers. Science was now god, spirituality had caused much strife. ‘Yes. You’re probably right Cynus. Forgive me. I will record the incident in the log and begin a scan for others’ Orion motions in the air, in front of him. He traces a box in thin air. A screen appears in front of him. He starts to touch the screen, entering information into the vast repository- the central planetary computer network. ‘You do that. Damn if we where vigilant. Greater things than being stuck on some glorified boy’s toy- waiting for something to happen which rarely does ‘Cynus Skeptor hails from a powerful clan on the home world. Orion’s families is prestigious as well, Skeptor unaware of just how prestigious. Though Orion unlike Skeptor is quite content with the position he finds himself in. ‘Why this thing can’t be automated?’ He remembers sitting in history class. The topic that day was the Synthetic Unity. ‘Actually I understand now’ Orion Stargazer smiles. ‘Yea it would require an artificial intelligence. He gets up of his seat. ‘I am going to get something to eat. Do you require anything?’ Cynus so immersed in his quest to find something to shoot doesn’t appear to even acknowledge him. Orion leaves and makes his way down the corridors. Down the corridor he can’t help but ponder the consequences of such lapses- If not for the planetary shield. – A huge asteroid hits the continent of Cunabula......The resulting impact obliterates the capital of Zhor’Alar. The death toll is in the millions, the resulting shockwave causing global weather, upheaval, disaster. - Shaking himself off, from his reverie. He notices that the gym and the recreational area are busy. It will soon be time for him and Cynus to change shift. Musing to himself ‘Business as usual’ the others oblivious to the possibly fatal, occurrence in space. Down on the planet, the auditoriums are packed with observers and gambling enthusiasts. All around them are screens providing full twenty four hour coverage of events. Events taking place, many, many miles from the planet Farce. To casual on-lookers some of these would appear quite morbid. Hustle and bustle of other Pretenders placing wagers on outcomes- the probabilities. There are seven of these great auditoriums located on the planet Farce, although they are not capable of housing the entire population. Most of the powerful clans have representatives attend the great auditoriums on a daily basis. The rest of the population get the news feeds while they are going about their daily business or at home. Such is the level of technology and the power of the planetary computer network; it’s entirely possible to open a window, anywhere on the planet. Orion Stargazer sat at the canteen table, His thoughts returning back to the space station. Other Pretenders where sitting at other tables eating. He could overhear their conversations, much of which consisted of a general desire, to be home with their spouses. He gleamed from their surface thoughts, deep discontent. Life on a defence space station was entirely male dominated, a old law which became tradition. His thoughts drifting back to a meeting he had with the other members of the Pretender high council. ‘If our people continue this path of decadent pleasure seeking, based mostly on the misfortunes and woes of the lesser races, we are inclined to fall into stagnation. Our enemies could not wish for a better outcome’ Aurus Despotia, a regal if not somewhat over bearing woman. Appears to be in her late forties, age no longer holds meaning for a Pretender. Votum Ordo, appeared to take her words into deep consideration before framing his response.

The high council seat of government was ironically located on a small string of isles known as the Stellar Isles- named so due to the outstanding view of the stars at night. Stellar Islanders went on to conquer the rest of the globe during what the Pretenders refer to as their industrial age.
‘Aurus Despotia. The national past time is essential to harmony. How else are we to keep the population under control? Specifically our control, even a power such as ours is not without its problems’
Technology had long ago removed concerns such as food, housing and energy. Fortune had smiled on them when they first ventured out into space. Within the home system they found two more habitable planets. The original names lost to antiquity during colonization, along with the actual name of their race, both planets became known as Falsehood and Jester Prime. Originally an in-joke associated with their racial name, Pretenders- A name given to them by the lesser races, the ones aware of their existence. Unfortunately like a great many things, it stuck.
‘It’s true that it’s been quiet along the borders. Perhaps the Synthetic Unity has given up on their holy crusade? Also we have not had a repeat incident with those profit driven maniacs from Alpha Centauri. They may have concluded that a conflict with us wouldn’t be very profitable.’ Adamant Skeptor, quite the commanding presence within the council chamber- minister general of foreign affairs, a role he takes quite seriously.
A circular room with seats, the council chamber. Here the various powerful clans, hold all power on the planet Farce. At the center there is room for a speaker to go down on the floor. Here they would be aided with space for windows- windows they could use to call up information. The three windows would open in a prism shape enabling three hundred and sixty degree viewing of the associated information.
‘Those idiotic machines would never give up their crusade!’ Votum Ordo minister of internal affairs- deeply disliked Adamant Skeptor. During their adolescent they both served on a planetary space station, where this rivalry was born- prestigious Pretenders served on space stations during their life time, due to their desire to show the people that they had only their interests at heart.
‘Both parties are likely licking their wounds and plotting our demise. Worry not council men and women; unlike Adamant I am keeping a constant vigil. It’s a good thing I am the minister for interior security and not that charlatan’ Upon Adamant’s Skeptor face, a tinge of red. He explodes into a tirade.
‘You snivelling worm. I’ve faced Synthetic Centurions hand to hand. I’ve commanded fleets over the Thano’s expanse during the first illumination jihad. I’ve boarded Conglomerate behemoths.....Yet you sit at home, preening alongside your private army. Babysitting! Do not presume to lecture me on matters of defence!’ A woman makes her way down to the floor. She is attractive by Pretender standards, her age, difficult to determine. Down on the floor she motions in thin air. Three windows open up. ‘Gentlemen. Council women. This bickering does not serve to answer our immediate concerns. We must deal with the problems at hand.’ She starts to tap at one of the screens. The information is also brought up on the other two screens.
‘Projections show an increase in unrest. Unrest that will only grow among the population once they start to question the very fabric of our society. People weary of our unquestionable absolute power, weary of population control. Tired of the current established entertainment processes- our methods of control’ Looking around the council room she hears murmurs of agreement. Tall with blonde hair and crystal clear blue eyes- almost an icy stare, devoid of emotion. It’s evident within that blank stare. This is not a person you would wish to play a game of poker with.

Last segment then I'll stop trolling lmao.

‘We must change, in order to survive, we must adapt. The great game must be changed.’ Aquadia Stargazer looked upon the assembled audience. It was then that she saw her son Orion Stargazer. She gave him a weak smile then turned to face the other ministers.
‘What do you propose we do? Aquadia.’ Votum Ordo seemed to be quite exasperated at this point. After all this was his field of expertise. As minister of home affairs all matters of security and social control fell to him, but this situation seemed unusual in the history of the Pretenders. What little of it he was aware of.
It was at this moment a man stood up much to the awe of the crowd, he made his way down towards Aquadia Stargazer. ‘I suggest we send some of our kind to one of our subject planets. Similar to expeditions in the past, only this time instead of merely planting more observation and intelligence gathering devices in secret. They stay for an extensive time period studying the host planet and its peoples’ Such a statement was accompanied with much confused murmuring among the other members in the council chamber. They could not dismiss it outright, after all this man was the closest thing to an emperor they had. Effigy Animadverto the second hailed from probably the most distinguished family line upon Farce, his forebears where attributed to many of the great inventions which shaped how Farce operated today. A scientist and a keen historian himself he generally didn’t even attend meetings, so busy was he tinkering with new technologies or trying to uncover the genuine history of his people. It was known among many he also had an unhealthy interest in other cultures deemed inferior to their own.
‘What could we hope to achieve by such an action?’ Adamant Skeptor would not openly dismiss an idea, not before he would allow it to be explained- a man who liked to look at things from many different angles. This approach often gained him many victories in battles due to his sometimes unorthodox approach; which in turn gained him much infamy and the begrudging respect of his enemies.
‘From what I have gleamed from our histories, it would appear our people seeded many of the lesser races within this galaxy.’ The whole council room is enthralled as soon as he mentions anything to do with Pretender history, It is apparent they are quite the self absorbed lot.
‘One such planet has a species called humanity. What is fascinating about this species is that it is incredibly similar to our own, before we began bio-engineering upon ourselves. From what I can gather from the revered records, we have had limited contact with this planet. They are totally unaware of galactic events’ Orion Stargazer listened on, pondering what the point of this all was.

‘I propose we send an expedition to this planet because they have managed many advances in a relatively short space of time, they have great potential. If what the records say are true we are could also be considered their metaphorical parents. Genetic drift aside, they are incredibly similar to us physically. Before self engineering, although I don’t claim they are as philosophically mature’

Silence descended upon the council chamber. No one, was grasping Effigy’s reasoning, perhaps because he had yet to explain. ‘Can’t you see? The new entertainment we seek is high drama. The subject planet is much like ours during the pre-industrial age, Fragmented and non-unified. It’s a cauldron of ideas, a melting pot of conflict and strife, the old adage of survival of the fitness. It’s running amok on planet Earth. Such things indefinitely and without limit are detrimental, we have learnt. However much could still be learnt, we could maybe even gain a understanding of the early days of our own civilization, more importantly it will entertain the masses, the struggles and woes of another species up close. We could be like the reporters of old. It will remove their minds from domestic affairs, Think about it!’
Aquadia Stargazer had a passing interest in their history; she spent some time among the old archives though incomplete, Effigy’s speech prompted within her, recollections- she recalled reading about previous incidents where her race visited Earth. Deep interference, they went so far- as to pose as gods, some even went totally native, never leaving the planet but instead choosing to stay and lead early human civilizations. They could not repeat the mistakes of the past, it would not be allowed, with deep resolve, a plan was formed.
Effigy turned to face her, he had gleamed mild alarm among her thoughts. Limited telepathy was an engineered trait among the Pretenders, only given to the prestigious clans upon Farce, a topic of deep discontent among the rest of the population.
‘Who would you propose to lead such an expedition? How large would the expedition be?’

Quotation at start.:drool1:

Many of the races, we seeded in the Milky Way. In the beginning- They where us. We took it upon ourselves to watch their development and to not interfere.......You must understand. These weren't colonies nor did we land people.....People geared with our knowledge and our technology base. No, we merely created the necessary conditions, on planets favourable. We planted genetic material necessary for life to develop- Our genetic material. Naturally life did not always thrive but where it did. Life arose, life that was subject to the forces of the universe. Subject to evolution and natural selection. Life, life that on various planets, began to drift away from us. The great experiment had begun in earnest. In our hubris we corrupted it, we played gods unaware that within the great experiment. The seeds of our destruction where sowed. Anon

Aquadia Stargazer tried with some small measure of success- to hide the rising alarm bells going off within her head. She was familiar with Effigy's eccentricities. Asking questions, she knew the answers to, she was determined to alter his plans in whatever way she could.
You can't be seriously considering open contact with these people?' Such a move is unprecedented' Votum and Adamant looked at each other nodding in silent agreement. They could not fault the logic of what was just said.

Routine Disruption
Orion Stargazer regained his senses, how much time had passed? He noticed that the canteen was empty, looking outside it was dark. It is always dark in space- Oddly in some ways he found it deeply uncomfortable.
Glancing at the Chrono meter on the wall he realised he was late for his shift change. The watch was staggered between break, lunch and off duty hours ensuring a constant vigil over the planet's security.
Getting up he began to rush back, to his station and what he assumed was Skeptor waiting, waiting to joyously berate him- Such opportunities, rare in occurrence.
Instead to his mild surprise he found two other crew members unknown to him. 'Ah Orion, is it? We're to take over your shift. Your being re-assigned' Orion understood immediately what was happening. Remembering the council meeting he was aware it was probably time for the expedition. Cynus was not at the meeting so was probably unaware that a expedition to an alien planet was on the cards. An agreement- Aquadia's and Adamant Skeptor's sons where to accompany Effigy Animadverto.
'You are to take a shuttle down to the planet. Cynus is awaiting you in the bay.' Orion nodded, he headed back down the corridor. He couldn't believe this was happening so soon- he was not ready, such responsibility. Cynus would be of no help, he'd probably see this as some excuse to behave badly. Effigy Animadverto the man was a complete enigma, he knew next to nothing about him- Except for some rumours, they didn't provide much clarity instead they actually added to the mystery. Considered a freak- an oddball by many, he was known to isolate himself for large periods of time working on projects, even going so far as to block his thoughts.
How one could manage such a feat was relatively unknown to Orion- it was a skill he had yet to learn. Now they where to journey down, to the planet and encroach upon this man's territory- lair? Orion wasn't sure what way he could describe such a thing.
Down on the shuttle deck Orion could see a open hatch on one of the shuttles. 'Cynus must be prepping it for launch already' He thought.
Making his way over he could see three other shuttles on the deck, each one oval shaped, silver with wings- more an aesthetic feature if anything. Pretender society, never able to remove the concept of winged flight. So deep rooted it was, in their psyche.
Most space stations contained four multi-role shuttles which in the event of an emergency could not ferry the entire population- fortunately lifeboats where located elsewhere on the station.
'Orion, pre-launch sequence and destination have been put into the computer- ready to get off this bucket?' Orion wonders if dear old Cynus has been fully briefed. He seems unusually cheery and enthusiastic- probably believes we are going home having fulfilled our patriotic duty.
'Can you believe we are going to the abode of Effigy Animadverto, the man's family is legendary- we'll probably get a commendation, why else would we be visiting him?' Orion sat down beside Cynus, the hatch closed and the shuttle began to levitate. 'Cynus, I guess we'll soon find out' The shuttle made its way outside the bay into the void of black, into space- In high orbit of the planet Farce, the shuttle dove down into the atmosphere. The computer chimed in 'Switching from anti-gravity propulsion to sound resonance, atmospheric entry imminent.'

A far better re-write:

A Close Shave A beginning.

Space, Space is frictionless. What exactly does this mean? For the planet Farce, it could have meant everything or nothing. It moved into the Pretense system; at a constant pace. A rock--If you could call such a monstrosity that--it seemed to move quite blissfully. Spinning, other fragments twirling about its mass.

Perhaps the inhabitants of the planet Farce where also ignorant? Ever closer in perpetual motion, the asteroid did not have the luxury of time, time for the old questions. Who am I? Why do I exist? Existential matters.

The asteroid plunged into chaos, like a employee late for work--impact. Impacting upon the planetary shield it collided with planet Farce fully committing itself to the realm of oblivion. The last thoughts of an asteroid, if one was capable of possessing thoughts-- forever lost to the void.

"That's the second one this month" Tall with brown eyes and hair, Orion Stargazer could only be described as a rather meticulous bureaucrat. Tapping on his control console impatiently, a man fond of order and all associated with it, he would tally astrological events, some of little significance, causing great frustration among his peers.

"Meaning what?" short, broad of shoulder with blond hair and blue eyes, Cynus Skeptor a man of limited hobbies and interests "I don't know. But these collisions, two of them, within this time frame?" exclaimed Orion with a puzzled expression.
"It's almost like the universe is out to get us" he said with the utmost of seriousness. Scoffing with a raised eyebrow, "Not everything has some deeper mystical meaning. As a society we have moved past such crap. It's probably an asteroid field moving close by" enjoying the challenge much to his chagrin.

Society had long ago erased the spiritual, no longer was their belief in higher powers. Science was now god--spirituality no longer fashionable due to technology, war and strife. "Your probably right, Forgive me, I will record the incident in the log" setting to work frantically, he entered the incident.

"You do that, Damn if we where vigilant" leaving the thought unfinished, he looks out the window. Above the planet Farce, high in orbit they are on board a space station. There are other stations of a smaller design, they appeared to be formed into a defensive line around the planet. Silvery, resplendent and refracting sunlight, the space station looks rather sleek while also managing to radiate an aura of menace. "It's been months since we got to blow up something, my favorite activity" Cynus working at his interface, Leans over, with what could only be vigilance "Old kinetic weapons, definitely more sass than energy weapons--just right for this crap" gazing out the window now, his intent is quite clear, Blowing shit up.

An amused expression, he could not help but laugh at Cynus "It's not so bad, we are doing a great service for our kind" Frowning and letting out a resigned sigh Cynus replies "Orion, I have no doubt, no doubt that this is what you were born to do. I on the other hand, I was destined for greater things. Greater things than being stuck on some glorified boy's toy--waiting for something to happen, it rarely does, past activity not included, we even missed it!"

His feelings of entitlement where ingrained from birth, hailing from a powerful clan upon the home world, those of house Skeptor where usually more at home with military affairs--Cynus being the exception, he was more fond of the "good" time. Orion like Cynus also came from a powerful clan, however he was quite content with his position, safe in the knowledge that he was serving his people's best interests.

"Why this thing can't be automated?" remembering history class, that day's topic-- the Synthetic Unity, machines suffering a existential crisis, who owed their origin to the Pretender's. A messy historical event.

"Oh" said Cynus with an almost sheepish grin, Smiling in reply Orion exclaims "Yea it would require an artificial intelligence. And we know where that leads my friend" Signing once again while gazing out the window Cynus replies "Still wish I was planet side, gambling upon the fortunes of the lesser races" Closing down his command console Orion gets up of his seat and stretches "I am going to get something to eat. Do you want anything?" He does not get a reply, Cynus has returned to his original quest, finding something to blow up--he is deeply immersed in this task.

Walking down the corridors, he can't help but ponder the consequences of such lapses, if not for the planetary shield. He zones out somewhat, his thoughts drifting. A huge asteroid hits the continent of Cunabula, the death toll is in the millions, the resulting shock wave causing global weather upheaval and disaster--shaking himself off, from his mental imagery, he notices that the gym and recreational area are busy. Soon it'll be time for him and Cynus to change shift "Business as usual" musing to himself, the others oblivious to the possibly fatal occurrence in space.

Down on the planet, the auditoriums are packed with observers and gambling enthusiasts, all around them are screens providing full twenty four hour coverage of events. Events taking place, many, many miles from the planet Farce. To casual on-lookers some of these would appear quite morbid.

Hustle and bustle of Pretenders placing wagers on outcomes--the probabilities. There are seven of these great auditoriums located on the planet Farce, although they are not capable of housing the entire population, most of the powerful clans have representatives attend the great auditoriums, on a daily basis.

Orion Stargazer sat at the canteen table, his thoughts returning back to the space station, other pretenders where sitting at other tables eating. He could overhear their conversations, much of which consisted of a general desire to be home with their spouses. He gleamed from their surface thoughts, discontent.

Life on a defense space station was entirely male dominated, an old law which became tradition. Looking outside, it was dark, it is always dark in space--oddly in some ways he found it deeply discomforting.

Glancing at the chrono meter on the wall he realized he was late for his shift change, the watch being staggered between break, lunch and actual off duty hours ensuring a constant vigil over the planet's security. Rushing back to his station and what he assumed was Skeptor waiting, waiting to joyously berate him--such opportunities where rare.

Instead to his mild surprise he found two other crew members unknown to him. "Ah Orion is it? We're to take over your shift, your being re-assigned" understanding dawned upon him immediately, remembering the council meeting he was aware it was probably time for the expedition.

Cynus was not at the meeting which meant he was unaware that a expedition to an alien planet was being sent. Nodding to the crew members he awaited instructions. "You are to take a shuttle down to the planet. Cynus is awaiting you in the bay" he nodded once more, then took his leave.

Heading back down the corridor he couldn't believe this was happening so soon--he was not ready, such responsibility. Cynus would be of no help, he'd probably see this as some excuse to behave badly. Effigy Animadverto, the man was a complete enigma, he knew next to nothing about him--except for some rumours, they didn't provide much clarity, instead actually adding to the mystery.

Considered a freak, an oddball by many, he was known to isolate himself for large periods of time working on god know's what, even going so far as to block his thoughts, how he could manage such a feat was relatively unknown to Orion--it was a skill he had yet to learn. Now they where to journey down, to the planet and encroach upon this man's territory--lair? Orion wasn't sure what way he could describe such a thing.

Down on the shuttle deck Orion could see that the hatch was open on one of the shuttles. Must be prepping it for launch already he thought. Making his way over he could see three other shuttles on the deck, each one oval shaped and silver with wings--more an aesthetic feature if anything. Pretender society incapable of removing the concept from their pysche.

Most space stations contained four multi-role shuttles which in the event of an emergency could not ferry the entire population--thankfully lifeboats where located elsewhere on the station. "Orion, pre-launch sequence and destination have been put into the computer--ready to get off this bucket?" he exclaimed rather joyously.

Orion wonders if dear old Cynus has been fully briefed, he seems unusually cheery and enthusiantic--probably believes we are going home having fulfilled our patriotic duty. "Can you believe we are going to the abode of Effigy Animadverto, the man's family is legendary--we'll probably get a commendation, why else would we be visiting him?" He sat down beside Cynus, the hatch closed and the shuttle began to levitate. "Cynus, I guess we will soon find out"

The shuttle made it's way outside the bay into the void of black, into space--in high orbit of the planet Farce, the shuttle dove down into the atmosphere. The computer chimed in "Switching from anti-grav to sound reasonance propulsion--atmospheric entry imminent"

Plunging into the atmosphere, geographical land masses became visible to the occupants, descending upon the continent of Cunabula--they flew past at incredible speeds, out to sea. They came upon a string of Isles known as the Stellar Isles.

Concepta the global capital--a gigantic urban sprawl, a mass of bodies and architecture, impressive by anyone's standards, they arrived at what could only be considered a manor house.

Isolated, out on the fringes of the city, it was located upon a plateau, a full view of the city was on display. The shuttle found it's way to the landing pad, judging by the appearance--the landing pad had seen better days, through lack of use or maintenance, perhaps a question, only the owner could answer.

"We have arrived" Cynus gazed upon his surroundings with uncharacteristic sobriety, hesitantly he used the shuttle's command interface to open the hatch. "I don't like this Orion, It's too quiet" stepping outside the shuttle, Orion turned to Cynus "Come on, it will be ok, we've all heard how Effigy appreciates his privacy"

Both made their way from the shuttle, coming upon a door they paused and looked at each other. Impatiently Cynus pushed the door--surprisingly the door opened."Nice, another corridor. I've been seeing a lot of these lately" Orion said.

Proceeding down the corridor they could see many paintings along the walls, paintings of prominent figures--some of which where ancestor's of Effigy Animadverto the second. "Orion, is that what I think it is? Holy crap it is!" Cynus rushed over to an android, he started to examine it. "An old Synthetic Unity combat model, is he mad?" kicking the husk he realised that it was hollow. "Seems like it is gutted, a damn good thing too, do you realise how dangerous these things are?" Grabbing Cynus, he started to drag him away "Come on, this isn't what we are here for"

Bubbles

Further down the corridor they came upon a force field--it barred their passage, they could go no further. "How are we going to meet him if we can't get past this force field, come on Orion, your the brainiac, tell me"

Touching the forcefield was probably not a good idea, yet he touched it--receiving a very unpleasant shock, it sent him flying backwards. "That hurt" he said regaining his composure, he shrugged his shoulders "I'm stumped" before he could say anything else a computer's voice chimed in "Identify yourshelves" having no other choice the both identified themselves. "Entry is granted, the master is in his lab, please wait while the way is made clear" They both looked at each other puzzled, the force field dissapeared--behind it the floor opened and an elevator came up to ground level.
"Woah that's pretty neat" Cynus said. "Let's take the elevator and find Effigy" Orion replied.

In the elevator--the doors automatically closed, their where no dials or buttons. It became evident that this was going to be a one way trip. Alarmed--Orion tried to find a exit, his frantic panicked searched made Cynus laugh. "Just enjoy the ride my friend, you and your claustrophobia, its ironic"

Reaching their destination--the doors opened, both men exited the elevator, into the great hall. In the center their was a bubble? No one seemed to be about except for them, the bubble appeared to be bending inwards upon itself "What the hell is this?" exclaimed Cynus. Orion gazed upon it, shifting away he gazed around the room looking for Effigy, it was obvious they where alone. Moving forward, they approached the bubble "It doesn't look very stable" Orion said.

Creeping up, behind the two men, Effigy slaped both of them on the back causing a startled jump "Of course it isn't stable, it's a experiment" It folds further inwards upon itself, two points meeting, causing all focus and attention from the three to shift towards it. "This is where things get interesting, not sure what is going to happen?" Effigy starts grinning--he pulls the two closer into a tight group hug "Isn't this exciting, space my friends, I like to think of it as a bubble" he exclaims.

"Never was fond of that folding business, conjured up imagery of laundry--you know what I mean lads?"--A career bachelor-- he loosens his hold and starts to jump up and down somewhat. Orion and Cynus both grin nervously while this mad man seems to be in fits of hysterics. Fits of hysterics in front of some sort of bubble, the nature of which--isn't very clear. "Bend, not fold, bend the bubble"

Emerald eyes with jet black hair--stuck up in a messy arrangement, Effigy, his eyes framed with glasses, also a lab coat and slippers. Presents quite the cliched picture of a mad scientist back on earth, fortunately none are aware of this fact. Perhaps Orion and Cynus had some inkling of the "mad" part, "Effigy we are not here to witness a experiment, we've got important business" While Orion was speaking--the bubble started to contract somewhat.

Suddenly, it imploded producing a miniture black hole, the hole started to suck light in causing the room to go dark. "Is this supposed to happen?" Orion said. All three of them started to feel the pull, Cynus perhaps in this situation, the wisest--ran for one of the lit columns within the great hall. Orion and Effigy, seeing what way the wind was blowing decided it would be prudent to do the same.

Along the column, the three, held on for dear life. "Perhaps I was optimistic about my possible results" Effigy had to shout as air was now being sucked in causing background noise. "What the hell did you even do?" Cynus shouted.

"Oh I haven't formally introduced myself" Effigy replied. In reply Cynus started to laugh maniacally, prompting a well merited show from Orion "This is not funny" looking at Effigy "We've got to close that thing before the whole planet gets sucked in!" hanging onto the column, Effigy started to mutter to himself, seeming to not hear what Orion just said.

"Ah ha! We open another one" Orion and Cynus looked at each other, on their faces a expression of complete disbelief "Are you insane!" Time was running out as more air was dissapearing--soon the room would be a vacuum.

Horizontally hanging, hair blowing, it was getting difficult to hang on--every passing minute. Soon they would be sucked in followed by the manor house and likely the planet perhaps the entire universe, at least they would not be alone.

"Debatable, but opening another one is the solution, they will cancel each other out, similiar to a simple aglebra equation, Quick! we need to make a chain, hold my legs, I need to reach the command console" Haphazardly Orion grabbed onto Cynus "Be gentle that hurt!" exclaimed Cynus. Orion began to climb down until he was hanging off his legs, hanging from his legs he awaited Effigy.

Making his way past the other two, Effigy's journey was accompanied by a chorus of gasps and murmurs--hanging off Orion's legs he reached the glass console, tapping commands he opened a duplicate of the experiment, this too became unstable turning into a black hole.

Both entities began exerting their pull upon the other, both in unison, looped infinity, normal gravity returned to the room causing the three Pretenders to fall to the ground with quite the thud. Quickly getting up, Effigy ran towards the console, this time using it to erect an containment field around the two. "There that should keep them in check until I figure out how to close them"

Picking themshelves up, Cynus and Orion both gazed upon the two mini black holes with suspicion, collectively they let out a sigh of relief. Both began to think coming here was probably not such a great idea, if not somewhat dangerous.

Cynus was going to let Orion take the lead on this one because it was apparant to him Orion somehow had some idea as to why they where here, call it a hunch or maybe he was taking his cues due to Orion's behaviour?

"Effigy now that this unpleasantness has been dealt with? About the expedition?" Dragging himself from the console, a mask of pure concentration--it turned to realization, walking back over to the two Pretenders "You need to get whatever personal effects you wish to bring and say your goodbyes" thinking, Effigy had an idea "The less you bring the better, we can't risk our technology falling into the wrong hands"

Expedition? They both now had the undivided attention of Cynus, he heard expedition, what the hell where they talking about? No one mentioned this to him! Suddenly he felt slightly angry, he didn't sign up for this. Deciding it would be better to find out what exactly they where talking about he bit his tongue.

Registering the confusion upon Cynus face and the turmoil of his thoughts, Effigy realized that perhaps they had not all been briefed. Adopting a councillary tone "Cynus you appear to not realise what we are talking about? Would I be correct?" Feeling the eyes upon him causing mild discomfort, he felt compelled to ask "Effigy, I mean Mr Animadverto" Effigy smiled "You may call me Effigy" Cynus discomfort dissapeared, he began to feel more relaxed.
