someone broke into my uncle's car then used the garage door opener...

Someone broke into my uncle's car, took his gps, stereo system and opened the garage door using the garage door opener. Then the person/people stole most of the tools in the garage, including a lawnmower.

Really scary because he and his wife park their cars on the driveway so the person knew people were home but still broke into it and went into the garage. This all happened after midnight, as they were sleeping. They locked the door in the garage that leads into the house...what would have happened if the door wasn't locked? :crying:

There is 1 funny thing. For some stupid reason, my uncle leaves his wallet in his car so he doesn't forget. The person took his wallet but took his driver's license out and threw it on the driveway. The person kept the wallet and everything inside but for some reason, he was nice enough to take his i.d out. Maybe he didn't want him to wait in those long lines at the dmv.

I think someone from the neighborhood did it. My uncle is always working in the garage. Someone must have saw some of the tools inside and decided they wanted them for themselves.

Bastards.

Yet I can't help but think positively about the whole ID thing... That's a kind of nice thing to do. He couldn't sell it, it was of no use to him, so he left it...

Kinda like a friend of mine, he got robbed while on holiday. He didn't have much on him, but he had a nice camera. The thief took out his memory card and handed it back to him before running away.

You throw away/leave id's and credit cards because if the police catch you with these items they can link you to the crime scene, that's what I do anyway ;) Hard cash, electrical goods and tools can't be traced unless you've noted the serial nembers etc. Happened to us a few years ago my parents were in a van ready to go to their store and 2 guys were walking around suspiciously wearing hoodies in the blazing heat at 7am. They'd left the van door open waiting for me and the guys took the opportunity to crap my dads wallet (in his shirt pocket ) and some bags etc, someone local clearly tipped them off about what time we leave in the mornings. When we move later this year I'm gonna stick cctv all over the place, cops don't care otherwise.

If the robber was caught with the camera the pictures could link him to your friend, they don't want the risk.

My father got robbed but the guy didn't give him back his i.d.

But don't most of these robbers throw away the i.d's somewhere else? The whole camera story, the robber could have ran away and threw the memory card somewhere else instead of handing it back to his friend.

When our home was also robbed 2 years back the robbers left the back door smashed open and took the car keys but not the car. The police showed up 3 or 4 hours later shrugging off the incident by saying 'this is the 6-7th one tonight' and we should get our door fixed and car locks changed because the robbers WILL BE COMING BACK for the car and then they left

Put up some dummy security cameras.
I got a wireless one on eBay for about £30 inc delivery, excellent quality day or night and all you need to do is hook it up to a vcr or dvr to record or connect to a tv to simply watch.

They never take the chance. They can be caught at any moment (they don't know if they've been spotted and the police called) so don't risk it, mugging/robbery on the other hand can be quite different. ps Some criminals who are clever enough to cammit ID fraud or have contacts that can will take the cards, you likely had some people high on drugs who just wanted something to sell to feed their habit. Real scum I hate them.

That too. Just something simple that you can put around the house to ward off criminals.

I changed my middle-name to Freeones
whats even funnier is benzes have garage door opener buttons built into the rearview mirrors. anyone with access in your car (valet, service tech, crackhead, etc) can copy your remote code by holding down the button on the mirror for 2 secs

:)

Yepper, lots of the newer cars have that feature.

It sucks people cannot behave with respect towards others... Animals, the lot of them.

anairhead999

You can check out any time you like, but you can never leave FreeOnes.
People these days. That's pretty scary knowing all that went down

busaguy79

FreeOnes is pumping through my veins!
Yeah that sucks! Shame we have to begin locking our homes up like fort knox just to have piece of mind!

Keeping not only the garage door opener, but also the wallet in the car was a very bad idea. Not to to be rude or to diminish what happened to them, but it's a bad enough idea that it goes against common sense.

True. But they could have thrown it away anywhere. Instead, they actually handed it back to him.

I don't ever let anyone see into my garage. Always keep it either closed or mindful of who's around. Yeah, that's the 'hood I live in now. 30 years ago it was nice; now it has turned for the worst.
