Sonia Sotomayor:Obamas choice

Hot Mega

So he wants her to be the next Supreme court justice.
After all as she says"She can make judgements better than a white man".

I only need judge her on just one decision she made.
A decision that was clearly wrong and shows whats she's all about.

Perfect choice.

She never made that quote and every Justice on the SCOTUS has had some of their opinions overturned.

Do you mean this quote? You left out a little bit and didn't put into context.

“Whether born from experience or inherent physiological or cultural differences, a possibility I abhor less or discount less than my colleague Judge Cedarbaum, our gender and national origins may and will make a difference in our judging. Justice O'Connor has often been cited as saying that a wise old man and wise old woman will reach the same conclusion in deciding cases. I am not so sure Justice O'Connor is the author of that line since Professor Resnik attributes that line to Supreme Court Justice Coyle. I am also not so sure that I agree with the statement. First, as Professor Martha Minnow has noted, there can never be a universal definition of wise. Second, I would hope that a wise Latina woman with the richness of her experiences would more often than not reach a better conclusion than a white male who hasn't lived that life.
Let us not forget that wise men like Oliver Wendell Holmes and Justice Cardozo voted on cases which upheld both sex and race discrimination in our society. Until 1972, no Supreme Court case ever upheld the claim of a woman in a gender discrimination case. I, like Professor Carter, believe that we should not be so myopic as to believe that others of different experiences or backgrounds are incapable of understanding the values and needs of people from a different group. Many are so capable. As Judge Cedarbaum pointed out to me, nine white men on the Supreme Court in the past have done so on many occasions and on many issues including Brown.” [Brown vs. Board of Education] Which said, "separate educational facilities are inherently unequal."

She is a horrible choice and knows nothing about this country's laws.

I saw some of her hearing. Anyone that thinks she is a "wise" anything has their head up their...:booty:

Sorry Meester but she is a legal genius. We need a diversity of viewpoints on the SCOTUS. The American Bar Association gave her its highest ranking in terms of legal qualifications to be a Supreme ("Well Qualified").

Care to speculate what Harriet Miers would've earned if Dubya had his way and nominated her instead of Roberts? (Hint: "Not Qualified")

Pain heals, chicks dig scars, Freeones lasts forever
The republicans on the commitee didn't lay a glove on her, they made a few noises but all agreed she will easily be confirmed.

The republicans have way bigger problems anyway like the noises and opposition they have been making about the proposed health care reforms. They are trying to defend what a huge majority of americans agree is indefensible ( the current health care system in the US).They are just continuing with such apparent total pandering to the vested interests that want the out of control cost wise current system that does not even cover everyone to continue to show how they are so out of touch with the majority of america, who now know even if they are happy with their coverage that the current system is not sustainable and will bankrupt us sooner then later.

Even what the dems and Obama are talking about is just a first step and will need to be built upon with a lot more cost controls. But at least the dems are moving the right way while the republicans are just the party of "no".They will let the insurance companies and other health care lobbys tell them what their policy should be with no regard to what that is doing to the american economy,to its people and their health care.No wonder they are so unpopular lol.

Let's hear what you know about this country's laws. Which legal opinion has she rendered which has been proven wrong/faulty :dunno: Or, which laws need to be overturned?

I think it would be best if the Pubs just stayed out of the way and let the Dems and Obama make all the decisions. The country and economy would be heading in the right direction quicker and it would speed up the process of 'getting shit done' and 'overturning Dubya's nightmare policies'..

The GOP have no credibility on any issue. I have no idea why the Dems and Obama care to "bring them along" on any issue. If Pubs go along with Dems, and things turn around, then the Pubs get to have a chance to get re-elected on the "See--I can work with the Dems, and I was part of the solution--Re-elect Me!" blah blah blah

I know she is a gun hating Socialist.

She doesn't believe in states' rights.
She doesn't belong in politics in any capacity.
I'm leaning towards deportation.

You can't deport a citizen of a country. You can only deport non-citizens.

I do, it's you who doesn't know what you're talking about.
Especially with your comment that one party should sit back and do nothing and just let the other rule like they were a super majority.
That's not how this country is supposed to work and never should work.

She is woefully inept to do anything in Washington.

Is it really smart to keep the people who wrecked the country in some sort of position of power? Especially when they were voted into minority by "the people"? That would seem stupid to me. So, sorry, the GOP is the sole blame for all the misery our country is in now and it's time for the Dems to "fix the messes." Some Conservative-minded people don't believe in a functioning gov't and have no use for Gov't--state or local makes no difference to them. So, again, why should we give power to people who don't believe in gov't?

The Dems are in a super majority as the GOP were previously. :dunno: The difference is I have much higher expectation of *success* for the Dems than I do for the GOP.

In the case I posted the link to, A bunch of fireman studied their asses off, sacrificed alot of time and effort, and passed the test.
But their tests were thrown in the shredder because that year no blacks passed the test.

That is clear discrimination.
The fireman sued.

It went to sotomeyer court and she tossed their lawsuit in the shredder too.

Thats not the principles that made the country great.
Its that mentality that has truly ruined the country.

The principles of the country haven't changed. Whether this country is fair or not is debatable.

Her judgment in this case didn't affect or offend me. The firemen followed their right to due process. The State of Connecticut will *hopefully* do a better job, in the future, of ascertaining the validity of its civil servant tests.

Mr. Daystar

In a bell tower, watching you through cross hairs.
She's certainly not someone I want to see in that position...for several reasons, but it looks like she'll make it. I foresee her making many decisions that will ruin this country, and the Constitution.

I think she has been pretty evasive on a lot of questions asked of her. She says she will enforce the law, but when you practically will decide what the law says that statement means nothing. Just using a president excuse doen't hold water anymore consider she going to be on the SCOTUS. Why even take a case if you're not going to even consider changing precident if it's wrong. In my view anybody that has a living constitution philosophy, makes ruing on what they feel like is a good policy instead of what the law says, or rules on anything that differs from the intent of the founders or the wording of the constitution is inherently unqualified and a danger to our whole society and the liberties it has. Considering she doesn’t have any problem with affirmative action (against the equal protection clause of the constitution), and was evasive about the Second Amendment (which lest be honest here, will almost certainly mean she for gun control) that means she unqualified.
