Spider-Man death 'changes everything' for Marvel

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
Only because people thought the comic was going to be worth something one day. But it was just a mass produced cash cow.

It's only worth like 15 bucks now.

It's ironic in that if a lot of people think a largely available collectable, in comics or pretty much any other type of collectable, is going to be worth a lot of money it's almost never going to be the case for just that reason.

It's also just another reason people should collect things because they like them and not because they think they will make a lot of money in the future. I know I enjoy having my comics now just as much if they are worth ten cents or fifty dollars. I don't even know what any of them are worth and it doesn't really matter to me that much.

We will be full of patience Mr Freeones!
Killing Spidey in the Ultimates comics just mean that the fad of the Ultimates line is wearing off.

When I first read this thread and still after reading it again I expect it to be about someone dieing from the Spider-Man musical.

I agree; just people got crazy when they saw how much people were paying for first issues of Superman and Spider-Man etc...

Their flawed logic lead them to think that first issues of things is what made them worth that much. When it's a combination of rarity and early unpopularity coupled with modern interest and demand.

Comic makers also fooled people with reprints with "special" foil covers and a lot of tie in series like DC vs. Marvel.

My parents bought a bunch of the death of superman issues...I was just happy I could beg them to go to the comic shop and they'd let me stay more than 5min.

I was pretty young when it stopped, but I can still remember being able to buy comics out of the rack at most common supermarkets and grocery stores and not needing to go to comic shops. Even adjusted for inflation they were significantly cheaper back then also. It didn't take nearly as much effort for a kid to be able to buy one. Yet, the comic producers wonder why so many kids don't buy comics these days or why it has become more of a niche thing than ever before.

It's unfortunate because kids can't really buy them easily anymore, and the people that loved them when they were younger and stuck with them when they got older are starting to turn away from them because of all the crap the industry has done the past two decades. They are loosing potential fans from both groups.
