State DMVs Say "DON'T Smile For the Birdie - Just Sit There!"

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
Four states adopt 'no-smiles' policy for driver's licenses:

http://www.usatoday.com/news/nation/2009-05-25-licenses_N.htm?se=yahoorefer

This quote, from the story, cracked me up:

"Elaine Mullen of Great Falls, Va., bristled at the policy while renewing her license until she heard the reasoning. 'It's probably safer from a national-security point of view,' she says."

:1orglaugh

Knowing the DC area fairly well, I'm guessing this lady is a loyal Republican. She's also, apparently, a major tool.

I mean, really, this sort of mentality is almost something from a Simpsons episode!

Come up with any awful policy, and the moment anybody questions it, just say "National Security, Sir/M'am!" and wait for the docile tools to bow and submit with a "Oh, well, if you say so!"

I'd walk in with a plastered grin and just claim that was the way God (America's True President!) made me...

I heard of this before. I've been told by a DMV worker, that whenever you get pulled over by a policeman, you are rarely smiling. When you smile for your picture, it looks nothing like you if you get pulled over.

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
Fine with me, after sitting in the DMV for most of the day, why would you be smiling?

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far

Does that mean I should get my picture taken giving the finger?

When will this fascist government stop taking away our freedoms? I just know that Obama is behind this.

Passport photo's, drivers licences whatever else you need a picture for. Over here it's common practice to only use picture where you are straight faced. I dont think it has anything to do with "National security" thats just the way it has always been.

Well, not always but for a while.

There are people that smile while getting their driver’s license picture taken? :1orglaugh

Everybody's picture I have seen looks like they are being angry and menacing. I can't really blame them considering what some of them go through at the DMV.

Conspiracy...

Safer for national security? People like her are cowards and need to move out of the country.

I like that answer. ;)

I hope they tell me that. They will regret messing with me when my lawyer gives them a call. :hatsoff:

Smiling has never been a problem when IDing someone.
It's not a problem now, they just want you to follow orders.

I don't do that well at all. :D

Well hell, I've got this one nailed if I move back to the states. I can count on one hand the amount of pictures where anything close to a smile is on my face. For some reason, it always looks like I'm being tortured. :1orglaugh

Just because you put something in all-caps doesn't mean that anyone actually said it.

I don't recall anyone claiming that it's their "civil right" to smile for the license. I think it's simply a resentment that the government has crossed a line when it tries to dictate what kind of facial expression you have when the picture is clicked. Nobody's gone nuts over it... until you showed up.

:dunno:

Also, use of the cool icon () doesn't automatically make you cool.

Dude, you're bitching about it. And other people are making "big brother" comments.

But thanks for pointing out my all caps thing wasn't an actual quote. I'm sure many people thought it was.

Oh and btw...I use the  to indicate I have a sense of humor about what I post.

See?

DMV pictures all look like shit to begin with. I mean, is anybody proud of their DL pic ?

Not only would I not smile, I'd squint so that they can't surreptitiously scan my retina. The Fucks ! Think I'm kiddin ? :crash:

Well, yeah, I see the icon (again), but there's no (intentional) humor to be found anywhere in your posts.

Try again?

This isn't really worth explaining in detail but...

There's a difference between saying something funny and having a sense of humor.

I take nothing on this forum seriously. Smilies are a way of indicating that.

Surely you're not so new to forums to understand that.
