State to mom: Stop baby-sitting neighbors' kids

IRVING TOWNSHIP, Mich. – Each day before the school bus comes to pick up the neighborhood's children, Lisa Snyder did a favor for three of her fellow moms, welcoming their children into her home for about an hour before they left for school.

Regulators who oversee child care, however, don't see it as charity. Days after the start of the new school year, Snyder received a letter from the Michigan Department of Human Services warning her that if she continued, she'd be violating a law aimed at the operators of unlicensed day care centers.

What kind of fucking shithead wants to fine a woman for helping out her neighbors? This is just another example of the fucked up state of things in the US. We let crack addicts have kids that they will not care for, yet when a woman tries to look out for the kids in her community we throw the book at her? :wtf:

It doesn't surprise me if the parents are the ones complaining. Just look at the news! If you don't know the people in your neighborhood, they're probably pedophiles and if you do know them, they might be pedophiles still!

Was that a Phillip Garrido reference (being that I live in the same city as him)? ;)

Unfortunately, your argument is probably much more common than is necessary. True, we have to be aware of our surroundings and look out for kids that we care for, but this woman was just keeping an eye on the neighbors' kids before the school bus picked them up. Sounds like a noble thing of her to do. Also, the state wants to charge her with running an unlicensed daycare, not pedophilia.

How's everyone liking Government intrusion into the private sector? Love it yet? No? Well......it's only gonna get worse.......:D

Sorry, it wasn't a reference and my response was kind of more sarcasm towards the people who just watch the news all the time and think the world is just that way all the time (filled with pedophiles, terrorists and presidents that are equivalent to nazis). But yeah, that is messed up. Stuff like this is partially why no one wants to help anyone as much anymore, it just might be illegal!

Wow...so with this law in effect...a kid can only play at another kid's house 4 weeks a year. Because effectively it's the exact same thing. The parent who has the neighbor child is "caring" for that child while they're there playing.

How fucking sad.

Isn't it wonderful how the law works for the people?

What I'd like to know is why the hell are we electing the shit stains who write this kind of laws?

A woman is an occasional pleasure but a cigar is always a smoke.

It's not the writing of the law that sucks, it's the interpretation. There's no common sense anymore. When interpreting and applying law it's necessary to consider the intent of the law, which in this case was obviously to stop people from running illegal unlicensed daycares. Clearly this woman was doing no such thing as she wasn't taking money or even strangers kids, just doing a favor for her neighbors.

Eat it up, politically correct society. This is what you get for letting idiots have power.

How is she operating a daycare if she is doing it for free?

Also, who are they to tell someone what to do with their own children?
No one but the parents have the right. The state doesn't own your children.

I'd fight this if I were them.

With all that is going on, you would think a good Samaritan wouldn't be unlawfully prosecuted.

More government legal bullshit.

As Big Brother grows up with each passing year soon they will be Big Daddy with a razor strap ready to punish anyone and everyone.

It's an incredibly stupid and shortsighted law. Although to our credit for once, all the politicians that have commented on it have basically said they think it's stupid, violates common sense, and want to change it as soon as reasonably possible.

What I wonder is who was the idiot that actually reported them to the authorities.

The lady/guy that probably reported most likely runs a daycare in the area and was upset because her business was losing money. Bullshit and bush league all the way.

Everyone is criticizing the lawmakers, but in all the reports, even the city officials think this is stupid. They have acted very fast to try and get this taken care of. The city does not want to fine her. They are following through on someone's complaint as they should whenever a citizen complains. No matter how minimal it may be.

Rep to D-Rock for reading the story and seeing that.

There are plenty of laws on the books that don't make sense. IMO, marijuana laws don't make any sense, but if a neighbor finds out I'm smoking weed and reports me, you can bet damn sure the police are going to take a look into it. As they should. They are here to serve the people.

If she were profiting off of this, then maybe I could see cause for concern. But she's not. It helps out the other parents and it's only for an hour. For fuck's sake, let it go. It's great to see that the governor intervened in the situation and they are now working on legislation to rectify the problem. We need more people helping each other instead of nosy neighbors getting involved where they don't belong!

Racing is life... anything else is just waiting.
She was on the news the other night with some of the other mothers. They think it was someone from the neighborhood who ratted on her, but they're not sure who yet. That's a pretty low thing to do. She said she'd never turned any kid away. So she couldn't understand why anyone would have hard feelings against her.
