Superman: New Krypton

"New Krypton" is a Superman story arc written by Geoff Johns, James Robinson, and Sterling Gates with art by Gary Frank, Alex Ross, Renato Guedes, Jamal Igle and Pete Woods and published by DC Comics. The arc is an inter-title crossover, published in Action Comics, Superman and Supergirl.

The story features Superman coming to terms with the death of his adoptive father while also dealing with 100,000 Kryptonians now living on Earth as a result of the Brainiac story arc. This story begins a planned "link" on Action Comics, Superman, and Supergirl as part of their collective plans for Superman and his cast of characters through 2008 and beyond. The events of this story lead directly into the 12-part series Superman: World of New Krypton.

This is another story I'm going to have to pick up when it hits graphic novel form. Along with Green Lantern: Blackest Night

I guess one of my biggest dislikes about DC Comics is they can't keep their stories in one book. Every book has to crossover into the other multiple books related to the character. I know it's good for sale of lower selling books, but I'd like to just once pick up a Superman book and read a good stand-alone story, or when Jim Lee took over art on "Batman" and it wasn't crossovered with any Batman books for a year.

I like Geoff Johns' writing style and Gary Frank's artwork, but every single crossover also doesn't have to have a cover to Alex Ross. When "Marvels" came out, it was amazing, then a couple of years later, it was "Kingdom Come" and that blew me out of the water. Now, Alex Ross has a cover our every single month, and now when I look at his stuff, it just feels like it has lost that magic special touch.

I also think that Superman is getting hosed every way he turns. "Superman Returns" left me with a dry taste in my mouth. Nothing has come out in the books for a very long time that made me say "Wow!" and now with no male role model in his life, and him never getting to live up to his "Last Son of Krypton" title, well, I don't know.

I'm sorry for the rant, but I just need to get that off my chest.
