It's not just you. I like him on PTI. But here he just gets in the way. I am not personally a big Ditka fan. BUt I don't know. I like just two guys personally. I am watching the football game, bot looking to be entertained by the commentators.

I have no problem with him on PTI, etc but sometimes he gets on my nerves here.
i chose Ditka because he would be entertaining. If you've seen him on Mike&Mike, i think he'd fit in. Him or Parcells.

Why aren't great QBs more numerous? Its the most important position, in the most popular game in America. I don't get it.
More than half the QBs just plain suck. The other half are mediocre at best. Theres only like 2 great in their prime playing right now. And its no surprise both their teams are undefeated.. as usual.
I just don't get it. What is so hard about playing QB in today's pass friendly, never have to take a real hit, NFL?

it's too many young quaterbacks, i think. Everybody knows the learning curve for them takes a few years. (Cutler, Shuab, T.Jackson, Edwards/Losman, Lemon, Cambell, Rivers, Young, Leinart,)
If it's not that, then it's backup quarterbacks getting their first chances at starting and having a team of their own. (Garrard, Huard)

Yeah, youth and inexperience play a big part of it. It just seems like we should be churning these guys out now a days. Most just end up as duds.
I think part of the definition of being great will always mean there are relatively few people that fit that description. If there were a lot of people that were that good they would be considered mediocre by everybody instead of great in the first place. To be great you have to be better than most people that do what you do so there can never be a lot of great people at one thing.

The quarterback position has always been a crap shoot. Some are good, some are not. You can't predict if someone is going to be good in the NFL while they're still in college and that's the problem. It's not just the quarterback position though that suffers from this...all positions suffer. The only difference, IMO, is that there is "more pressure" put on young quarterbacks now-a-days. If you have one bad year as a youngster QB, you're almost automatically banned from playing again. They are rarely given proper time to develop and grow as a QB which causes problems and causes an abundance of "bad" QB's. On the other hand, if you have one good year (ie - Tony Romo), you're billed as a superstar, even though you haven't done anything. It doesn't make any sense, but that's how it happens.

and you're correct about other positions suffering from bad quaterbacks, Recievers, Runningbacks and even defenses suffer when the qb can't keep possesion of the ball and move it down the field.

The game is important but to me, all it determines is who gets homefield. They still have to play again and i haven't seen enough of the season to say who's better.

The best indicators of how well college QBs will perform in the pros are number of games played and completion percentage. They aren't that great but most other stats are almost meaningless so it is sort of a crapshoot.
From watching Tony Romo this year he actually looks pretty good. He has made a step up from last year and it seems he is usually making good decisions, looks less jittery, hits players in stride more, and just seem more accurate in general. I would say he's above average at this point.

That's part of its beauty. Because of the strategy and formations used, in a way, it's the world’s ultimate chess game. Even most fans never realize how much goes into it, or how planning and preparation for that game are so much more vital than any other major sport. Where other sports they try to do virtually the same thing each time, or they maybe have a few strategies, in this one there is thousands of things they can and will do.

I think College Football is the best form of American Football. There is more pure play, especially between 2 equally matched teams. The presence of the Option play makes for a more interesting game.
Pro Football has several large problems that are affecting play quality. My basic issue with Pro Football is that the running game is being "over-defensed" and the passing game is being under-defensed.
I don't like the trend of teams signing "specialists" on Defense. You have Run Stuffers who are fat, obese DL'ers who do nothing but clog the middle. You have speedy, short CBs that do nothing but run around and play Zone on obvious passing downs. The NFL Rules also penalyze the defense too much.
