i am sure there isn't too big a hockey following on here, but we definetly just had one of the best playoff series ever between calgary and tampa bay. AMAZING game 7, very proud of tampa, woulda like to see a canadian team win it, but i was really rootin for tampa. awesome job

:nanner: GO LIGHTNING! I am a big Lightning fan I glad that they won but it was a great series both teams played there hearts out but only one can win GO LIGHTNING!

2004 Conn Smythe Winner - Kerry Fraiser.

Hard to believe there wasn't a conspiracy when Fraiser gives TB the win in Game 4, then gets to do Game 7, and calls 3 horrible penalties and allowed the Bolts to win.

I liked both teams when the playoffs started, but by the end of round 4, the Lightning and some of the press supporting them, started rubbing me the wrong way. Calgary, throughout the series was the better team, they just never got the brakes, or the calls. The series should have been over in Game 5, but timely and questionable calls went the Tampa way, and now a team from Florida has the ultimate hockey prize.

Not to worry, the banner will be raised in front of 9,000 fans next year. Enjoy the bandwagon fellas. I'm sure the Bucs will be better next year, and you can go support them instead

I know how to use the search button!
Why is U.s.a and Canada sharing a league?
I mean, it would be better if Canada had their own league.. 80% of the teams is american so
But they dont have the money, thats the thing.. thats the problem, if NHL was totally american nobody would play in Canada

Well, great idea  , but beyond a few cities, the NHL is not very well supported in the US. Without Canada, the league would die. Beyond that, the majority of the players are born in Canada.

I guess you could asked why the NBA and the MLB have teams in both countries while you are at it (if you were aware of that.

The more I look, the harder it gets!
That game 7 should of never have happened. The series was over by game 6. That goal for the Flames should of counted, the refs even looked at the replay & u could clearly tell the puck went past the goal line just enough. Of course the refs made a bad call cause all refs in every sport r F****** STUPID!

Cums here often!
I think its pretty cool. It was a great series. I'm a coyotes fan though so hopefully they'll make a bit more progress next time around :( .:nanner:

Hey Jizm, Shane Doan is a hell of a player. Too bad they gave up on Danny Briere so quickly.

Anyway, there is a management problem in the desert. And until either the CBA gets overhauled, or some of the brass gets moved, don't hold your breath too long.

Didn't I just hear they laid off 25 full time employees, yet keep Gretzky on as a "consultant" at $3 million a year? Here's a hint, without Messier or Lemeuix, Gretzky has never won any thing on his own. It'll be another long season in Glendale.

tampa wins and the sad thing is.....nobody cares. They arent even going to play next year and the finacial landscape in hockey is beyond fucked. My caps finally have the nubmer one pick (and they better not fuck it up ...if they dont pick alexander ovechkin or they trade it somebody should be shot) and now they arent even going to play.....I read that something like 70 percent of the players will be free agents. Also the tv deal the nhl signed is horrendous........there are only 40 (!) televised games sceduled for next year....and they are on espn2 and abc. Plus tampa won the cup and they werent even on the schedule although i guess they might change it now that they won. Hockey is in sad shape.

Well, as a Cap fan that you are, you might want to pray there is no season next year, as it could mean landing Sydney Crosby the year after. (IMO, I think the NHL rigged the draft lottery to make sure the Pens didn't get the top spot. They are far more deserving then Washington is).

The thing about the numerous free agents is that for the last couple years, GM's have been very unwilling to offer contracts to players beyond this year. Not knowing what the new CBA might bring, owners and GMs didn't want to be on the line for a huge contract.

The TV deal is horrible, but what do you expect with the smurf the league has running the show. Interesting ehough, about 10 years ago, the NHL was gaining a lot of interest, while their main compition, the NBA, was falling of. In comes Bettman, and women's lawn darts gets a higher TV rating.

The entire league needs an overhaul

Would rather be pissed on than pissed off
It was a good 7 game series, heck it was better than all of the

finals in all the other sports this year. But some people might

argue that the superbowl was better but I think the game was

rigged (come on who kicks a kickoff out of bounds).

"isnt hockey really boring"

Not to me, but most other sports are boring as hell to watch ...ie, baseball, basketball.

Hockey is constant hard hitting, fast paced action. It rules!

BTW, my favorite NHL team is the Colorado Avalanche.

My first favorite team was the Montreal Canadians and Patrick Roy was my favorite player.

When Roy left Montreal and joined the Avalanche, thats when they became my favorite team. Hey, I was a kid. He was my favorite player so I had to cheer for whatever team he went to.:D

Anyways, I'm older now and plan to stay loyal to the Avalanche.

Go Avs!
:hatsoff:

I guess everybody is entitled to their opinion, but, the current state of the pro game has dropped off in the past few years. 10 years ago, this sport was flying. At the Junior, College and Minor levels it is less structured and a lot better.

Having said all that, how anyone could call hockey boring, yet enjoy watching baseball, basketball, or football (not that you said that, but). I find more enjoyment and excitment watching my grass grow.

avs are my fave team as well.

Im not goign to bother quoting anybody here, but im basing most of this on other people comments above.

First of all, it does suck with tampa not playing next year. The nhl is very stupid if they let a walkout or lockout happen. they've just had one of their best playoff runs ( though u.s tv rating were down, they were by far the highest ever in canada). Two small market teams one, many young stars were made, and both teams who made it to the final were offensive, explosive teams that didn't rely on a trap. perhaps the whl will have some success next year however, martin st. louis says he may play if the nhl locks them out.

I agree the refs should have reviewed the goal in game 6, but when it happenedl ive action i wouldn't have thought the puck was close to the line, khabibulin madfe it look like a routine save. Can you IMAGINE the outcry if calgary had one on that goal? the puck is an inch off the ice when u see it when it seems to be over the line, which means it may very well not have crossed, because u can see only a very faint white line of ice under the puck, which u would see if it was on the ice, but because it's slightly airboprne u should see more of the white ice.

LASt but not least, what the hell bad calls went against calgary??
you'd have to be stupid to not call the hit from behind of lecavalier, and the hit on st louis in gaem seven was partly from behind, and partly boarding, but unquestionably a highstick. st louis was split open in the different spots on his face, i feel bad for leopold, cuz it wasn't intentional, but it had to be called. And what about the call moments before that when the calgary forward went to run khabibulin and the tampa player stepped in his way. the tampa guy got run over AND got a penalty... that was by far the worse call of the game. Don't get me wrong, i would have loved for calgary to win, but it was an honest and amazing series.
