Yeah he points to a real problem but offers not much in way of a solution.

And many of these points this doctor makes seem to contradict themselves IMO.He talks about outbreaks of ailments not seen for a long time in the US yet the answer to that is not as he would propose to not treat these illegals who are carrying them is it?

And then he says this.

"Dr. Falcon says the problem started with the 1986 Emergency Medical Treatment and Active Labor Act (EMTALA), the federal law compelling hospitals to treat anyone in medical emergencies without regard to the patient’s ability to pay."

What does he want, hospitals to go back to denying care in emergencies if you can't pay up front and are uninsured? That would mean citizens as well would be denied care.Thats why universal coverage for at least citizens (which is all that is being proposed btw) is so important.Can we at least agree citizens/legal residents should be treated and more then just stabilizing them and sending them on their way and all have some sort of basic coverage? I would be ok with the just stabilizing the illegals and no more but citizens deserve better as they get in the rest of world.

If we just cleaned up our act we could do that for less then we spend currently.

Yes I think most of you guys have raised very valid points and what is happening in Texas is certainly to some degree going in many countires/areas where there is access to free medical care. In the UK this is becoming more and more common place that the national health service is being abused by people who are not ordinarily entitled to it.

Friday you made a criticism of Dr Falcon that he highlights the problem but offers no solution. I think this is probably more of a political than medical solution which I guess is not his area of real expertise. He is simply trying highlight this for higher authorities to start the debate as to how it might best be tackled.

Few points.

Lets be clear when you show up at the emergency room of any hospital in the US they will only stabilize you and then send you away with no further treatment if you can't pay and have no insurance.

And he gets political lol

And he doesn't talk about all the citizens who show up and can't pay eithier.If we had universal insurance for at least citizens that would help him and the hosptals as then they would get paid by those peoples coverage plans.


As I said in my first post he clearly seems to say the law saying hospitals must treat anyone in an emegrency condition was bad and should be changed.Nice attitude for a doctor.

Maybe even allowing the national gaurd to do their jobs, gaurd the nation.
