Texas following the paved road of Arizona about ILLEGAL immigrants

~~whimsy~~

Texas lawmakers are closely watching Arizona's get-tough immigration law, with some Republicans saying they will push for similar action here while Democrats say the legislation is wrongheaded and the GOP would suffer politically for the attempt.

“The first priority for any elected official is to make sure that the safety and security of Texans is well-established,” said Rep. Debbie Riddle, R-Tomball. “If our federal government did their job, then Arizona wouldn't have to take this action, and neither would Texas.”

Riddle introduced a similar measure last legislative session — it stalled in committee — and said she will do the same when the Legislature meets in regular session in January.

Sen. Leticia Van de Putte, D-San Antonio, called the Arizona law “extremely damaging and hateful” and said any attempt to replicate it in Texas would not pass, but would damage the GOP.

Any such measure that gains traction “just adds to the Democratic side,” said Van de Putte, a former president of the National Hispanic Caucus of State Legislators.

She said she has scotched Arizona travel plans.

“I will not step into that state, and every single group that I'm a part of, if they plan a meeting there, I will not go, and I will ask all of my colleagues to please not go,” she said. “If my family would be treated differently just because of the color of their skin, then I don't want to be in that state.”

Sen. Leticia Van de Putte should be dragged through town by a horse, hung in the town square until almost dead, then tied to a board and disembowled...then of course beheaded, drawn and quartered with her 5 parts displayed prominately in the 5 most densely populated citys in texas.
I mean, thats what the virgin queen would have done.

I've just read about her, she's got clout, and she's done some good things.
but this calling republicans hateful for wanting to enforce a law is just treasonous in my view.
playing politics with the future of the state, and country.........not good.

I have a novel idea, how about we enforce the laws currently on the books versus enacting new laws that are going to cause civil rights issues. I realize illegal border crossing is a problem (its not just immigrants, but mainly the drug cartels that people should be concerned with). However, if you want to stop people who enter the US illegally looking for jobs, you have to go after the people that employ them.

Rep.

Novel concept...Everyone knows metal only reacts to a magnet. Shut the magnet off and the metal stays put.:hatsoff:

BTW, that's an analogy for those of you not inclined to draw the comparison.

Technically the AZ is already a federal law. It is not a new law, they just passed it so they could enforce it better.

Is that a novel idea or an idea for a novel?
...Cause that would be a boring ass book.

Not sure why people keep saying that talking point. It's not true and parroting it over and over won't make it any more true.

I know it's easy to have someone tell what to think and sound like they know what they are talking about but it's best to find out the truth for yourself.

Them maybe it's time for you to do that very thing?
(Instead of sounding constantly like a Huffington Post reprint...)

JaneB's statement is much closer to an accurate description than your inaccurate characterizations have been...

So, basically, you are the pot (or kettle) having an accusatory conversation with itself...very schizo...

I rather like the Euro-American culture that has made America much of what it is. So I am not afraid to say this continued incursion into American soil by a group who are foreign to a European concept of civility does bother me. I also don't like that taco trucks are popping up more and more in my town, nor that people in the southwest can't get jobs because they aren't bilingual. No, I have to reiterate: I don't like these stinking invading foreigners or this supposed "rich" diverse and contributing culture that comes with them.

I love how all these western Republican states and their headline chasing republican politicians all basically want to see military troops and tanks patrolling on their soil, trying to "flex muscles" at Mexico.....Let the posedown begin!

Pax Americana lives....
