Yeah, that caught a lot of people by surprise, huh? Not sure if that deal could get regulatory approval from the FCC or DoJ the way it stands now - they'd likely have to sell off quite a few of the non-core assets. But I guess Ruppie mainly wants it to get HBO and Cinemax anyway.

One of the activist investors (not Curly Carl Icahn, another one) has been trying to get Apple to buy Time Warner to scoop up HBO and Cinemax. But even though Apple has more money than God, Sweet Timmy Cook has never seemed keen on making truly BIG deals. What's Murdoch offering, $80 billion? Hell, Apple probably has that much stashed in a piggy bank in Cook's office. But with that offer by Ruppie, somebody new will probably take over Time Warner... it's in play now.

Time warner is in deep shit with it's SportsNet LA deal. $8.4 billion for 25 years for Dodgers rights. They want over $4 per subscriber to distribute it to Dish and other affiliates. Dish and the others told TW to shove it up their asses. Only 30% of the LA market now carry Dodger games plus they are losing subscribers.
