Well thats the key is that the opposing viewpoint is ACTUALLY scientific!
I can't wait to say "We told you so!" 20 years from now when ground level O3 (ozone a TRUE greenhouse gas) levels are choking us with Asthema, Enphesima, bronchitis, COPD, and temperatures are actually higher year round because of all the damn electric motors that Al Gore pushed everyone into using.

'Not being a prick at all, Torre, I'm all for sensible conservation and all, I won't be sold on the idea that Carbon Dioxide is now classified as a pollutant. How is it measured ? everybody seems to offer a different answer.
Why don't we all plant a tree every year ? No, seriously, trees thrive on Cº2 and kick out oxygen, it's a win - win. Are there no politicians yet invested in tree farms / nursuries ?

Seriously, at the end of the day the solutions for our problems, real or otherwise, will be sure to make a very few very wealthy.
Al Gore was worth some $2 million when he left the Office of Vice President of the United States of America. Today Al gore is worth more than $ 100 million, go figure.
He's found his niche alright, it's just a shame that he's not more forthcoming on the matter of globe warm / climate change or whatever they're calling it today.

Yeah, I didn't get around to watching Al Gore's flick. I don't trust propaganda of any kind. If it involves politics, you can almost be sure that it's propaganda.

But, he's going in the right direction with his. Maybe not hitting the right buttons, but it's a good cause, even if he profits. We all have to be responsible. It's simple ethics. You don't shit where you eat.

Carbon dioxide as a threat... should sound rediculous to anyone who's taken earth science in HS. Carbon Monoxide, on the other hand, IS a baddy. It's what cars pump out. And then there's Methane, from the moo cows.

This stuff gets into your water. It gets into your food, and you breath it each and every time you inhale. Not only does it have an effect on the planet... some studies show this stuff, and other chemicals that are hanging around out there, have an effect on you. In your day to day life.

It's a jungle out there.

Think you are a bit confused.Co2 is not harmless.Carbon dioxide is what is referenced when scientists say we have and are emmiting tons of Co2 into the atmosphere and that is what is causing the greenhouse effect and the warming/climate change.While Co2 is naturally occuring as you say mans activities in the last 150 years since the dawn of the industrial revolution have dramaically increased the Co2 being put up into the atmosphere and its increasing all the time and so is the resultant greenhouse effect.All this extra Co2 is not the result of humans emmiting it but from their machines emmisions and the burning of fossil fuels.The EPA is just now getting ready to classify Co2 as a pollutant.Best result of that will be intiatives to reduce the use of coal especially but also oil.

Too much of anything can be dangerous even things which in some quantites are neccesary like Co2.

Last thing I want to point out here is I constantly read posts which I generally agree with as they are somewhat supportive of the truth of the effect man is having that say something like "even if climate change is not true wouldn't it be good to curb pollution and clean up the air?" That again IMO is a POV that misunderstands in a fundamental way what is happening.The truth is that regular air pollution is actually beleived to be holding down some of the greenhouse effect by actually keeping the planet cooler by limiting the heating from the sun.So clean up the air but do nothing about the Co2 and you would have even more warming.Nice box we have gotten ourselves in lol.

Now, there are some facts and hard data being shown around here and if global warming is actually happening due to mankind's involvement, go ahead and try to refute it not just throw an ad hominem attack against someone you don't agree with or who threatens your deeply held beliefs. Otherwise you're not any better than some born again Christian responding to an atheist with just a "well, you're going to hell".

Now, saying that, I don't believe we should just pollute the planet and not care about the consequences. What's the most polluting city in the U.S.? Is it L.A.? Well, I don't see the pollution from L.A. down here in South Texas with our clear blue skies. So I don't believe that the pollution in my area is going to affect, let's say, Athens, Greece. Each area in the world has its own pollution problems that need to be resolved but then you got to make sure that your beliefs are not impeding progress or cause any undue hardship on other people.

I just wonder, most people who believe in GW are for the most part on the liberal side, yet they are the ones that "care" about the poor, so, why not, for example, allow new nuclear power plants to be built if that may provide more affordable electricity for them so they can keep their homes warm in the winter and cool in the summer? I mean, how cruel can you guys be? You want the poor to freeze or die of dehydration or what?

And just one last question, how much electricity does a nuclear power plant produce compared to a solar/wind power plant? I believe in proven technologies, and for me, solar/wind are not proven yet and I definetely would consider investing in the building of a solar/wind plant that can provide enough energy to a whole city or region. Is there a solar power plant that can do that?
