The Christopher Newsom/Channon Christian Murders - Very upsetting.

Here Zombie, Zombie, Zombie...
This is upsetting me very much. Before VT, the filthy media was paying attention to useless, fluff stories on fashion or Anna Nicole, when in Knoxville, these two kids were being tortured and murdered in horrible ways. This went from car-jacking to kidnap/torture/murder 1. The people that did this don't belong in society.

Where was Jesse Jackson and Al Sharpton on this one?

Everyone involved should have been sentenced to death.

  • George Geovonni "Detroit" Thomas, 27, faced a total of 46 charges. Thomas was indicted on 16 counts of felony murder growing out of the rape, robbery, kidnapping, and theft of Christian and Newsom, 2 counts of premeditated murder, 2 counts of especially aggravated robbery, 4 counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, 20 counts of aggravated rape, and 2 counts of theft.
  • Letalvis "Rome" Cobbins, 28, (b. December 20, 1982) faced the same 46 charges as Thomas. He has also been charged with assaulting a correctional officer while incarcerated pending trial. Previously in 2003, Cobbins was convicted of third-degree attempted robbery in New York state. He and Davidson are brothers. Cobbins was sentenced to life in prison without the possibility of parole.
  • Lemaricus Devall "Slim" Davidson, 28, (b. June 13, 1981) faced the same 46 charges as Thomas. Previously Davidson had just completed serving a five-year sentence in Tennessee on a previous felony conviction for carjacking and aggravated robbery on August 5, 2006.
  • Vanessa Coleman, 22, was arrested by the Lebanon Police Department in Lebanon, Kentucky. She faces 40 Tennessee state charges. Coleman was indicted on 12 counts of felony murder growing out of the rape, robbery, kidnapping, and theft of Christian and Newsom, 1 count of premeditated murder (of Christian only), 1 count of especially aggravated robbery (of Newsom only), 4 counts of especially aggravated kidnapping, 20 counts of aggravated rape, and 2 counts of theft. She was convicted and sentenced to 53 years in prison on July 30, 2010.
    In each indictment, the large number of rape counts were included to provide a range of options for prosecutors, not to reflect the number of rapes which actually occurred.
  • Eric DeWayne "E" Boyd, 34, was arrested in connection with the fatal carjacking, though not indicted by the Knox County grand jury. Boyd faced federal charges in United States district court as an accessory after the fact for helping the suspects evade the police. Later, Boyd was also accused by Thomas and Cobbins of rape and murder, and a search warrant was obtained for his DNA. The accusations by Thomas and Cobbins did not result in state charges against Boyd, but he is serving 18 years in federal prison on his conviction as an accessory to the carjacking.

Within the last few weeks I saw a special on this case. Something that struck me was that the defense said at trial that the woman involved had consensual sex with the accused in exchange for drugs. I know the defense attorney has to do his job but it takes an interesting individual to stand in a courtroom in front of some girl's parents and say that their daughter had sex with those animals for drugs when you know it's complete bullshit.

They were grasping at straws. This was premeditated.
All five should have been sentenced to death.

Terrible crime and they should be punished accordingly, I see no evidence of a 'hate crime' and I think these scumbags would have done the same thing to any couple they come across, be it white, black, asian or hispanic etc. If this case has truly been under reported because it's black on white crime then that is wrong, the amount of news coverage should be determined by the magnitude of the crime and not things like race and religion etc. RIP Channon Christian and Christopher Newsom

There is no picture of him with his family, there is a picture of his family going to court (where he would already be locked up) with another young lad who is probably a brother or male relative of some sort. I very much doubt he'd out on bail during the sentencing.

According to Knox County Sheriff's Office Detective Nevil Norman Thomas told him "f*** that white girl, she don't mean nothin' to me. You cops come into my neighborhood and kill us. Why should I get involved in something that is none of my business?" This isn't first racial comment in this case as earlier witnesses testified to racial hatred of carjacker Eric DeWayne "E" Boyd who got 18 years in prison for lesser charges. Knoxville officials are desperate to keep race out of this because the killers were black and blacks are always considered the victims under political correctness. Link

They may well be racists but did they specifically target this couple because they were white, if it was a black, asian or hispanic couple would they have not bothered them? This needs to be proven beyond a reasonable doubt as there are a lot of people out there making racist comments but not committing 'hate crimes', if they didn't rob them or take the car then in all likelyhood it would have been a hate crime but it seems the prime motive was robbery. Hopefully none of them see the light of day ever again.

'I believe it was a plan. These two kids just happened to be in the wrong place at the wrong time.’

I believe in the death penalty, and this case is one reason why.
People who do this kind of stuff deserve death, even a cruel death like electrocution.
but I guess the needle will do.
I also think death penalties should be carried out as soon as possible.
But i also think a system should be in place in which 3 or 4 third party courts review the cases and all decide that there is no doubt as to the guilt of the criminal.

I know. Everybody knows Jackson and Sharpton are scumbags. Even my black friends don't like them. They call them Poverty Pimps.

It was particularly egregious, which is why the death penalty was the verdict. Frankly I think they should have given Capital Punishment penalties to more than just the one miscreant.
