Interesting theory, but hasn't this always been going on, not only in American history but in every nation-state on the planet? Every government system tends to gravitate towards oligarchy, where a small group of "elites" ends up running the show. In our society, money buys influence in both major parties, and I don't see that changing anytime soon. :dunno:

I'm a bit pessimistic about all these numbers. I'm french and if all this is true, you're hiding your misery very well to the rest of the world.
I recently watched a documentary about economy and they all agreed that the all-liberal economic model had come to an end.
If your Obama is as powerless as we believe in France, it's not going to change...

Obviously no one learns from history as it continually repeats itself. And this is just another example of it. No matter how benevolent an idea is when a group is given any type of power they WILL ABUSE IT eventually. The cliche' "absolute power corrupts absolutely" is extremely accurate and it doesn't matter the initial intentions. Look at Russia when the communists eliminated the Czar and took power. The ideology became corrupt almost immediately those that had the power abused it.

However, in this particular case. It is a fact that the rich make sure that the middle and the lower classes fight amongst themselves as a distraction so they do not realize what the upper class is doing. This has been the matter of history for a long time and unfortunately cannot stop without the appropriate legislation. This video from George Carlin is very accurate

But its more important that the public is interested in the Jersey Shore or what fucko Charlie Sheen is doing instead of the true realities of life.

Absolutely it did. It may sound cliche, but Plato's "Iron Rule of Oligarchy" states all governments will tend to end up in the hands of a ruling elite, whether it started as a democracy or a kingdom. To mitigate this effect, the US Constitution sought to limit the powers of the Federal government and divide the three branches. Unfortunately, in the name of efficiency and benevolence, the core tenants have been watered down and bypassed over the last 100 years to the point where the effect was able to come to fruition yet again. The only way to mitigate the effect of creating such a beast is to starve it of it's fuel (money) and maintain constant vigilance... this has not happened; quite the opposite, people have grown divided, complacent, and have readily given the government more money and power, creating a giant beast that is now out of control and collapsing under its own weight.

The backbone of America, a hard working middle class that has made our country a world leader, has been devastated.
