It might. I store it properly, and treat it very well, so maybe if I hang on to it for a decade, who knows. She's paid for, so it's not going to cost me any more then it has. I learned on a Harley, my first bike was a Sportster. As far as power goes, it's a different kind of power. Your 650 will obviously smoke my bike, which is 96 inches....not sure of the cc's, I think it's like 1500 or something. It's VERY hard, and expensive to make a Harley pull the same timed quarter mile. In fact, weight to power ratio matters as much. I'm a big guy, you saw my picture. I would need to be on an 1100 GSXR to keep up with you on a 650....assuming you are average weight. The raw power you speak of is really more torque, and an illusion you hear because we make 'em loud. That old bike I had in this thread, would pull low 13's in a quarter, and it cost me 3 grand 25 years ago....and it also cost me reliability. I wrenched on that thing all the time.
If you want power, stay where you're at, or bump up to a 750/900. When you want people to look at you, and you just want to putt around, that's when you buy a Harley. If I would have started on a sport bike, I would have died long ago. I've been in two wrecks already, and walked away twice, but I was going slower, on a heavy bike.
Interesting. Its a whole world I am not familiar with. I started with a 600 Suzuki, she was pretty heavy. My 650 has more CC's but its so much lighter. I do think I prefer the weight, it helps you cruise, but I'm adjusting OK to how light my Honda is finally. I'm pretty OK on power, I don't open her up too wide and I ride pretty responsibly and smart. I think the 600-700 range might be my jam. A 1000 I'd like to feel, but I have no business on something that big. 650 has more than enough for me. I'm not one of those wheelie guys, I'm just trying to enjoy the road. My Suzuki was loud, and my Honda is super quiet. I like the attention of a bike, but mostly when I'm parked and a girl in the parking lot says nice bike
