I didn't take away that impression. Time magazine is not a policy publication for the democratic party. It is a popular middlebrow, middle of the road take on the sort of things people chat about in the lunchroom. At the moment Glenn Beck is one of those things and a lot of people in lunchrooms are republicans. and Time magazine would like them to read their publication.

If Time had not done a story about a well attended rally in Washington which was strongly promoted by a TV pundit wouldn't you have had something to say about that?

I thought it was interesting to read how much money these guys make. Beck pulled in $23 million last year. He openly describes himself primarily as an entertainer. I think the article is right to ask if this kind of politics is good for america? Do we want policy being driven by populist sensationalist punditry? Does it have a sterling track record of which I am unaware? I thought the direct quotes from Beck at the time of the Obama victory compared to the things he is currently saying were quite telling. I would certainly have been a lot more critical if I had been writing the article.

Doubtless there are ill informed vitriolic scathing criticisms of Glenn Beck out there. This is not one of them.

Where were these people who seem to be so fixated on maintaining their rights when Bush signed the Patriot act into law?

You would think being good Americans they would hear what this act (and the many others that followed) was going to entail and jump at the chance to march in protest to show how wrong they believe this act to be. But it never came and why is that? Was it because the Patriot act wasn't going to directly cost them anything or maybe it was because it was Bush, who they all probably voted for and you can't disagree with the person you've voted for now can you, no matter how detrimental the laws he and his administration were signing into being.

I would think it right for them to also look up the definitions of Socialism and Fascism and to not use them so interchangeably. It really doesn't look good, it makes one question the intelligence of those making these signs.

Hello Jack,

can I call you Jack? I hope so. I like this board I have fun writing here. In my posts - amongst the failed gags - I always try to read the stuff that is up for the discussion and generally reply to that. Boringly, I am always attempting to send others off to read things that I think illuminate the points I am trying to make in a more lot of better writing than the writing I do.

In this thread an article in Time magazine was cited as part of a general pro Obama hegemony. I did the decent thing and read the bloody story from start to finish. To my eye it was farly innocuous. Time magazine usually is. So are the people who like to read it. I believe I alluded to that. In no way was it a hatchet job or a puff piece for Obama. You wouldn't have to read it twice to work that out.

I would like to think that if it was a hatchet job, then I would have recognized it as such. Maybe I am not the observer I thought I was. Perhaps my comment that Mr Beck and his approach to politics (Entertainment first!) is to the general detriment of the process is evidence that I'm blinded by the manipulations of the President. I would like to think in this instance that the states anti-Beck and pro-Obama are mutually exclusive.

As someone who has never in his life voted Democrat I find it somewhat strange that you would consider Obama as my "Boy."

Mr Beck is a self serving buffoon. I sincerely believe that every night after a very pleasant conversation with his agent, manager and accoutant he checks his bank balance online, then he kneels down and prays for eight years of Obama in office.

First the Obama administration is composed of people like Nancy Pelosi, Emmanuel Rahm, Hillary Clinton and Ben Bernanke.
Nancy Pelosi has never been an efficient nor a contrutibutive politician in the USA. She is barely credible.
Ben Bernanke is one of the stupidest Federal bank director, he knew taht something would happen but didn't do anything to prevent it, yet Barack Obama decided to give him a second chance despite, Bernanke's first term as the Fed director led to a catastrophe.
Second Billary Clinton or the Clinton bitch, has done nothing positive when she was a senator of her own state. Naming as the responsible of foreign affairs was very dumb, because she is completely devoid of any sense of geostrategy and analysis. Name me please positive things that her husband former President Bill Clinton has done with his foreign office responsible Madeleine Allbright when he was president? I see none.
And at last Barack Obama. The first african american president to knee in front of an arab leader, the first to accept an antiamerican book from Hugo Chavez and shake Chavez's hand, the first to yield to Putin about the implementation of the antimissile shield that would have protected Poland and the Czech Republic against Russia. Obama only makes concessions, you don't win the war by making concessions, you win the war by slaming the enemy down. Unfortunately Barack Obama can't understate that because he has never been in the Army. He also wants to implement the free health care system that has made some of the leading European countries bankrupt. Please tell me how American is that???? The Europeans are only pleased when a democrap gets elected but can't stand it when a Republican is in the white house. But this is not astonishing because Europe of full of these damn leftists.

What does his race have anything to do with the fact that he kneeled or bowed before a Saudi King? I'm sure many other presidents before him have done the same. It's just that you have a personal grudge against the man that you bring this up. When a leader goes to another nation he is expected to comply with their codes of ethics. It's called statesmanship.

The book by the way is called; Open Veins of Latin America. Which is a chronicle of the social, political and economic history of Latin America, it's well known that the US has had a major hand in the development (or destruction depending on your point of view) for a long time. So taking that into consideration it's no wonder the US is mentioned within the book and it would be surprising if they were depicted in a positive light. Does this mean Obama read the book and he and Chavez call each other up at night to discuss it? No it doesn't.

All Chavez was trying to do was tell the new US president what had happened in his part of the world, it's not like he didn't know already. It was a publicity stunt, of course it was - but does it doesn't mean it wasn't justified. Nor does it mean Obama is a socialist.

Did he yield? Or did he infact make the dialogue between the two nations a lot stronger in doing so? It seems to me that this act has brought both nation closer and has haulted all the hostility that has been building ever since these plans were put in place.

In major diplomatic decisions I would have thought you would want a Russian voice to be heard. But that's just me, continuing to build would have weakend that link in my opinion.
