He might retire after this year. And if he does play another year, how can it be guaranteed it will be with a winner? If he goes back to the Mariners, he will not get a ring. Frankly, Seattle isn't even the best in the division, by far.
Too bad, really. He did help turn around the Mariners franchise, giving it a lot of needed new found blood in the 1990s. And the Reds were never able to figure out how to build a competent team around him (HINT: Sluggers like Kearns and Dunn will not win with pitching like Hamilton, Milton and Weber).
I'm a big fan of The Kid, but I just don't think the cards are stacked in his favor.
