Is Elway really tappin' that? Not bad..

There are some interesting head coaching jobs available.

Did I read correctly that some NFL team is thinking about hiring Jason Garrett for a Head Coaching job? Jeez. Maybe I ought to send my resy around to some teams. They'll hire just about anybody with a pulse huh?

Yea I think Jason Garrett is a great hire but Jerry Jones will be a danm fool to let him go.

You really think Jason GArrett is something special? Were we watching the same Cowboy offense flip flip and flounder all season long??

I think Jason Garrett is qualified to manage the gloryholes in the luxury suites at the new Cowboy stadium..and not much else.

I should probably read the Board Rules...
I'm surprised by that. I thought the Jets firing Mangini was a little overreaction, but this even goes beyond that. Denver has been one of the most winning teams the last 15 years.

15 years? Does it matter what a team did even 5 years ago?

I submit that there is no relationship between what a team did five years ago and what it will do next year.

Shanahan consistently started off like a rocket then sizzled out as the season progressed. The opposite of what you want.

Unless you think Shanahan as a coach changed when somebody flipped a switch on him then there is a relationship. This isn't like talking about players where they can come and go or get a lot older and have physical skills diminish in that time period. How many good new coaches hit it good for a few years and then fizzle in the NFL only to be fired? There are countless number of them, even a few in the NFL right now, even some that have been fired just this year or probably will be fired in a year or two, but coaches that can constantly win and have a good teams most of the time year after year are rare. A lot of teams and there fans would kill to have 8-8 be considered a pretty bad year for them in a 15 year span. Even if you do want him gone who are you going to find to replace him that's better.

As far as playoff victories go it isn't a good indicator of how good a coach is necessarily, especially when the circumstances are taken into account. You can hardly blame Shanahan for fielding good teams in the years where Indianapolis and New England or even San Diego were rolling over everybody or where they had to compete in the AFC. A lot of those years if they were in the NFC they would have been first round byes and probably went to the Superbowl at least once. There was also a time where Indy, New England, and Denver had a rock paper scissors things going on where Indy always seemed to beat Denver, Denver always seemed to beat New England, and New England always seemed to beat Indy. It makes me wonder what would have happened if Denver faced New England some of those times in those playoff years where they faced Indy and got beat.

If FreeOnes was a woman, I'd marry her!
If the league or networks are that concerned about ratings etc., then cancel the game altogether and just announce a pro bowl team, no game necessary -- then the players get the bonus for playing well during the season and don't have to risk injury for a game that means nothing to the players/league/networks.

agree 100%

That game is a pointless relic.

Maybe, maybe not. But Horse Face never won a Super Bowl before Mike Shanahan came to Denver as head coach, and Mike Shanahan had barely any playoff wins since Horse Face retired. Looks to me like Horse Face was the kind of quarterback M.S. needed to win a Super Bowl and that M.S. was the coach Horse Face needed to do the same. Doesn't necessarily mean that M.S. is a bad coach, now. What it DOES seem to mean is that M.S. was the beneficiary of having a future Hall of Fame quarterback (as much as I hate typing that) on his roster and don't forget that when the Queen Bees managed to win those two Super Bowls that they ALSO had that running back, I forget his name, now (Terrell something), to help take some of the pressure off of Horse Face. Before HE got to Denver the Queen Bees were having trouble even getting to Super Bowls again, let alone winning them. You can defend Mike Shanahan all you want to - the fact is that his playoff success in Denver pretty much dried up after he lost Horse Face and Terrell something, and after a while even coaches who've won Super Bowls will be out of a job if their quest for mere playoff victories goes on too long. I just hope that now that M.S. is no longer employed by that team that the Queen Bees' "brain trust" proves as adept as Al Davis is these days in hiring new coaches. It's pretty hard to be as crappy at hiring head coaches and evaluating talent in pro football as Al Davis is these days (this coming from somebody who was a Raider fan back when he gave a f*ck about the NFL), but if the Queen Bees can manage that then that should ensure that we've heard the last of them being in the playoffs for MANY years to come!!

I'm with you on that. I haven't watched a Pro Bowl in at least 15 years. Then again, I barely watch the NFL at any point in the season (including the Super Bowl), anymore.

What's this I hear about the Cardinals actually winning a home playoff game? Congrats to Arizona fans, I suppose.

I swear to God the officials were on Quaaludes in this game. Kudos to Warner and the Cards defense. James had a good game. The Falcons had a helluva time with the AZ snap count anticipation although the line did pretty well. First home PO win in ages for the Cards.
