Yeaaaa, screw the Pats. Hmmm, everyone was going crazy when Cassel got traded to KC for a second round pick, but in turn that KC second rounder ends up being Julius Peppers? Belichick is still a genius. Now with the "brady" rule quarterbacks will be in the popemobile during games in order for them to not take a beating. Would this rule come into debate if it were Derek Anderson who got his knee blown out in the first game of the season instead of the golden boy?

They sissify the game more every year. At some point you just have to accept that playing football is potentially dangerous, and players will get hurt. It would be better than adding rule after rule that slowly destroys the integrity of the game.

The NFL needs to protect players' knees. Period. The Brady Rule should've been introduced years ago, or when Carson Palmer was knocked out a couple of years ago...

I think the NFL is going to have to put *HEALTH CAPS* on players' weight at some point. We can't have 350lb fatasses running around. The game of Tackleball would probably be better and faster if nobody was allowed to play it above 260lbs...

I remember when Palmer was put out of the game against the Steelers. That was a total accident and the lineman who got Palmer was the first guy to see if he was alright. There's some QB's that are just flat out pussies. Yeah I know Big Ben may be a drama queen, but at least he gets back up and takes the hits. Jack Lambert said it best:

"Quarterbacks should wear dresses."

Any team that drafts a WR in the first round should fire its GM on the spot. WRs are a dime a dozen. A couple stand out, but rarely in their first season or two in the league. Draft OL or DL and you can win a lot sooner.

Soon with the way it's going the only way one player will be able to touch an other one is if they do a perfect form tackle, at about waist level, while in an upright facing position, with their helmet turned away from them, and then gently set them on the ground,...after they warn him first to let him know he is coming.

For the love of God, at one point this off-season the league was actually considering making it illegal for a defender to hit a wide receiver while he is in the air, even if he has the ball when it happens.

As kids playing football werent we always taught to take out the knees? Soon when QBs start getting concussions and upper body injuries will there be a rule where a defender has gently put the quarter lest he get flagged? Playing defense in the NFL is getting harder to do "correctly". Jack Tatum and Ronnie Lott are shaking their heads in disbelief as what is happening to their National Football League.

I don't mind it cuz if I am paying $85 for a ticket I don't want to see the back up QB. There are only about 20 QBs worth a damn, it is in the league's best interest to protect them from cheap shots. Do I want to see Peyton Manning or Sorgi play?

that is true. but you dont want to pay 85 per ticket to watch touch football either.

Maintaining the integrity of the game is greater then profits that can be brought in. For the most parts the star quarterbacks play most of the time.

Yeah, personally Peyton and Adrian Peterson might be the only players I would cough up close to $100 dollars to watch live. Injuries are a part of the game. Hell if it werent for injuries brady would be a bench warmer and Matt Cassel wouldn't be the supposed savior of the Chiefs. And if LT didnt get hurt during the playoffs, Darren frickin Sproles wouldnt have carved up the Colts Charmin soft defense. And maybe just maybe the Steelers wouldnt have had six championships. Im over it. Welp Im listening to ESPN Radio and Jason Smith is interviewing Jason Smith, Jason Smith sounds like a good kid, Detroit should totally draft him so Daunte Culpepper cant get injured below the knees.

I understand that injuries are part of the game, but with the athletes being so much bigger, faster and stronger than even in the 70s and 80s, bodies are breaking in new ways. A lot of people whine about putting QBs in skirts, but I ask if they are willing to stand still while a 6'4" 255lb guy comes full speed and goes for your knees? chances are pretty good the answer is no. QBs get rocked every week, i just want the best out there as much as possible. Would the Cardinals have played in the Super Bowl if Matt Leinhart were QB? Nope. Give me the best of the best, as often as possible.

The players of years gone by also had to take a beating with the defense using tactics that would get people suspended now...on practically every single play. In the even earlier years of football they didn't even wear helmets with facemask and they were just a leather cap, and they still managed to stay around for the most part and have good football back then. Being tough and avoiding injury is part of what football is supposed to be about, and yes I think a lot of avoiding injury is conditioning and skill with rolling with the blows and not just pure luck. It would be like trying to limit how hard boxers can punch because you want the match last longer and the boxers careers to stretch out more than they do, ignoring the fact that crushing hits are part of the game.

While it is true players need to man up and take their licks, players also need to quit tackling with intent to injure. Instead of changing the rules, there should be bigger penalties for illegal hits.

they aren't suggesting playing touch football. the league is trying to stop guys going for knees. look at the average career of a top running back. most are done by 30 now. five years is above average for a running back. Wait til Minnestoa's peterson takes a shot and is out for the year. Then see how effective he is after the surgery. The league spits out players every year like bad veal. It is trying to keep the stars healthy.

if you cant tackle the qb after you've been taken to the ground that is touch football.

It was a completely different game back in the stone ages when Lambert and Butkus played. Offenses and defenses weren't complicated. Coaches didn't spend hours every day pouring over game film, dissecting opponents, creating new defenses, blitzes, etc. Back in the 50s/60s/70s teams just showed up and played.

The athleticism and skill today are 1000 times more intense then it was when the Steel Curtain existed or when the Raiders were T H E RAAAAIDEEEERS...:)sing:The autumn wind is a raider...:sing:)

The game of Pro Football was *invented* before they had any idea the human body could do the things it can do.

Offenses have gotten somewhat more complicated in the last 30 years but defenses have gotten dramatically more complicated. Of course it could be argued they had to considering pretty much every rule instituted for the last few decades has went in favor of making it easier for the offense or to make more scoring. I don't think athleticism is more intense now, but not as much as people think. They might understand nutrition better now and have conditioning that's a little better, but I think players today are a lot less tough. Most of them if they had to get in a time machine and play back then wouldn't be able to handle it like those guys did, and they people back then did it for a lot less money.
