I hear that the producers decided to make it a prequel rather than a remake because they felt that attempting to remake the John Carpenter original would be like "drawing a mustache on the Mona Lisa."
I'm excited for this movie. It sounds like the producers and director are really committed to making a worthy prequel to the original.
