Kylefan, I just don't think this is not the right place to ask that question(since guys outnumber girls) and obviously guys misinterpret you. You may want to ask that in chats or other forums where there are more girls. To answer your question, some girls told me they also found it irritating in the beginning but eventually got use to it. Then again I am not a girl and don't wear such underwear so feel free to ask second opinions.

The answer is rather simple. Thongs and G-strings were designed for a woman not a man. Hence it would probably be recomended to not wear them. Because when you get a babe home from a bar and its time for sex, chances are she's not going to be too impressed with a thong/g string.
