He's going to run for U.S. Senate now I hear. Better than Al Franken(stein) or Amy Klobuchar. Much more the former than the latter.

what a loser!

Yeah well, any idea what he accomplished during his time as MN Gov? Balanced the budget in a very heavy "blue" state with liberal House and Senate. He did some good things. I don't particularly like his war support but eh you can't get it all.

If you look at what he actually did - he pushed costs to local government, repeatedly borrowed from K12 education funds and then took 2 billion in federal stimulus to 'balance the budget' - in short nothing but short term fixes as National Council of State Legislatures pointed out. Minnesota trailed rest of the country in terms of job and economic growth during his term and even Moody's lowered its credit rating.

All things I thought were correct and I agreed with.

He also lowered funding to two of the biggest hospitals in the state, but what are you going to do? All the freeloaders come here and shit all over this fine state because of the immense welfare system. I say fuck 'em.

In general I agreed with many of his proposals and efforts.

He sure has a lot to brag about - 8.2% UE in Texas (it was 4.2 when he got into office), most minimum wage jobs in the country, forced vaccinations with proceeds directly going to his friends, taxpayer supported venture funds directly going to his campaign donors, state debt growing faster than the nations', an education system that ranks at the bottom, most polluted state, executing an innocent man etc etc.

I'll still bet he'll beat Obama, a freshman senator from Chicago who accomplished and ran nothing!

In any election, 40% of the electorate will automatically vote republican, no matter what. Likewise, 40% will vote democratic....period. It's the 20% swing vote in between that everyone fights for. If I'm typical of that segment (you can argue I'm not but that's hypothetical), no way does Rick Perry win. In the instance he is the republican nominee against Obama, I'm holding my nose and voting for Obama. I cannot in good conscience vote for someone who wants to cram Jesus down my throat and deny basic civil rights to other human beings simply because of their sexual preference.

On the other hand, given a more moderate choice, I'd gladly cast my vote for a republican nominee as a legitimate alternative to a president who, so far, has been all sizzle and no steak. Right now, Ron Paul is pretty much the only one running who might fit that description and I don't think he has much of a chance.

Unless something dramatic happens in the next year, looks like the republicans are gonna blow their opportunity by going with an extreme right-wing nominee who will crystallize their conservative base but alienate the swing voter who could possibly get them elected. :wtf:
