Todays MLK Day

Red Spyder

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
I bet the tea baggers are eating fried chicken and watermelon in honor of MLK day.

Damn, I should have stopped at Church's. Sorry, I didn't get to eat fried chicken today but thanks for the suggestion for lunch tomorrow!

Oh, and it's Tea Partiers, got to keep the discourse "civil", am I right? :D

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
I had breakfast for dinner. It is an interesting twist! :)

Yes, and as much as I enjoy the day off, why not spend the day learning about what MLK and others did for the Civil Rights movement? I teach at a school with a high number of African American students. Unfortunately, most of them know his name but don't know anything about the non violent protests, the rallies, the boycotts, the sit-ins, or the March on Washington. They just don't understand how far we've come as a nation because they don't know the history.

It's disheartening to see what is taken for granted these days. Fuck it, I sound old. :(

Did you ever check out those "Eyes On The Prize" documentaries that PBS did about the history of the Civil Rights struggle - awesome stuff. The furthest thing in the world from boring documentaries.

MLK and the huge number of other people that stood up in the face of the KKK and racist police and a whole power structure that tried to crush them were ballsy mother-fuckers - there's not too many people around today that don't look weak as shit in comparison.

Sad but true. Every year I learn something new about the man. Not only did he fight against racially inequality, but he also fought against poverty regardless of the man's skin color.

I had the pleasure of visiting The 16th St. Baptist Church in Birmingham, AL which was the highlight of my day. To be in such a landmark location, where children lost their lives due to the struggle for equality, was very humbling. I was also able to go to Selma, AL to the site of the 'We Shall Overcome' march. It was all such an interesting experience, and I learned quite a bit today.

No matter your race, color, or creed... in this country... this is the day to appreciate the sacrifices others made for equality.
