Trash Patch

Everyone will be famous for 15 minutes.
So I saw this documentary last night, I think it was called Life After People, and they mentioned this thing called the great Pacific Garbage Patch. Tons of plastic waste, just floating halfway between California and Hawaii. It's estimated to be twice the size of Texas! And that's not even the only one. They're all over the place.

Talk about out of sight, out of mind, huh?

Yeah I have heard about this as well. It's a shame that most of the human population is oblivious to the damage they cause. Or if they are aware of the consequences, perhaps they just don't care. Maybe they will just pass it along to the next generation so they can do the same thing. I guess in the grand scheme of things though it doesn't really matter. I'm not certain where I read this but I think it was in one of Steven Hawking's books. Something about how if the entire history of the earth or universe was fit into a 24 hour day, the entire history of humans from caveman up until now would only occupy 1 second of the day. Earth will eventually recover, but the question is whether or not humans will be around to see it.

I'm too lazy to set a usertitle.
Forget Janet Jackson's wardrobe malfunction, how will I explain THIS to my children someday????

Very discouraging.

Efforts are being made to do something about it, but like it says in the wiki, the problem is, most of it has broken down into tiny plastic particles, about the size of plankton. (but actually overshadows the amount of plankton in that part of the ocean, as you might have read.)

I can't begin to imagine how they'd go about trying to improve that. Someone more creative than I, hopefully, is looking at it...
