Ashleigh sad story!
I fly a lot internationally and we really need to do a better job with screenings/airport security at home.
All of airport security in the US is basically a farce. And lets face it if you really wanted to cause destruction on an airplane and were professional enough you could do it the media has exposed the holes before.
The random screenings are a joke. What you look like, dress like, race, age, booking, luggage, attitude all can factor in.
But bare with me and read these.
1. A guy I worked out with was a demolitions expert in the marines and told me he or some terrorist could rent a limo fill it with explosives and blow up a third of LAX he said quote " Can't screen that."
2. Traveled with a friend in 2006, she was given the wrong ticket. Her name is Japanese the ticket name was Indian. friend: Aiko Yamazaki the ticket said Mari Patel. We did not check either. Went through 3 checkpoints where they looked at the ticket and passport. Finally they found the mistake and read it right at the gate.
3. Went through customs at SFO with my buddy we watched them harass a 70+ yr old about nail clippers. My buddy forgot he had his 4" Swiss Army knife in his backpack..he got through.
4. Have a Jewish American friend with a long beard. Because of his long beard he thinks he gets stopped. Dude told me he has been "random" checked at 14 airports in the US since 2003. He gets questioned on a regular basis.
5. Saw 2 TSA workers inspect a guy with a glass eye like they were doing a lab experiment. Man talked to us later. The guy lost an eye in Vietnam.
