U.S. Army Major General Harold Greene was buried today at Arlington National Cemetery with full military honors, including a caisson, two escort platoons, casket team, firing party, colors team, and a caparisoned horse. The U.S. Army band, "Pershing's Own," played softly as the funeral procession made its way down the long hill past the rows of simple white gravestones to bring General Greene to his final resting place.

There were several U.S. Generals killed in action in Vietnam (e.g., MG John Dillard, whose bird was shot down by enemy fire).

I think either he or Biden or Kerry should have been there. I think Kerry was overseas at the time.
I also think it's worth noting Obama has paid a couple of visits to Dover Air Force Base to honor the returning remains of fallen servicemen. That is something George Bush never did. Do you think Bush should have?

No. Since when has Presidential visits to Dover become protocol? Bush isn't the only President not receiving fallen heroes at Dover. This is so typical. Every time Obama gets criticized it has to be deflected to Bush. Bush isn't President anymore. It was not his General being laid to rest. At what point will Obama be responsible for his own actions?

Is it protocol for a President to attend all general staff funerals? Obama should have been there but, for whatever reason he wasn't, perhaps he didn't want to create the distraction that would have come with the added security that would have been required, perhaps he didn't want the appearance of a photo-op that he most assuredly would have been accused of by the same people that are bitching that he didn't go. At any rate, you're right, he should have been there, just another example of what a shitty president he is, you're also right that if he had gone he would have just been going for a photo-op, again, just proving what a shitty president he is. Added security for the funeral of a two-star general that wouldn't have been required without the attendance of the president. The same people that whine about him being "wrong" are going to accuse him of being wrong regardless of what he does, it hardly makes me look paranoid to recognize and point out the truth.
