ugly celebrities

while looking through numerous celebrity type magazines at my work recently, i came to the realization that at least to me, most of our so called celebrity beauties are really pretty damn ugly. NormallyI would never criticize anyone for being ugly, but lets face it these women are where theyre at BECAUSE of theyre looks.
Even with all their face paint I cant find most of them even remotely attractive.
It seems that these products of the media are in my face everywhere i turn. Even down here in south america I cant escape them. Has society been brainwashed to make us think theyre pretty? I think yes.
I just cant figure out why american society puts them on such a pedstile.
To me most of them are just plain scary looking.

Britany spears, nicole richie, olsen twins, Angelina jolie,anistan, anna nicole smith, rene zelwigger, paris hilton(pretty face, body of a ten year old boy), jennifer lopez, julia roberts,linsey lohan(the leprechaun),Madonna,tyra banks, cameron diaz,and many many more I cant even think of at this moment. even pam anderson and jessica simpson are pretty damn plain in real life.
It also strikes me on how unkempt many of them are when theyre not on film.

That's not entirely true.

There are physical characteristics that every culture in the world identifies as "desirable" and "beautiful".

A lot of the problem comes from the increasing influence of marketers in the english speaking world. Yes, I mean it. The superlatives keep getting bigger and bigger to describe mundane and banal things and people. The number of truly, accurately described, beautiful women that you will see in a lifetime is far lower than you'd imagine, IMO.

Why in the world would anyone buy into thinking they all "really" looked like that to start with? Hollywood is an illusion. Centerfolds are airbrushed photoshopped and redone to death. Its an illusion. Since the demise of some long ago careers such as Marylin Monroe, Betty Page who also by the way were soft lens shot at times but not always. It has been the work of "technical gadgets" no longer of "Mother Nature" for the past 40 years or more. Much like synthesizers etc. have made phony work of much of the music these days. I never elude myself into believing that what I hear anymore is what "they" are creating.

I do agree with the thread starter pretty much. Its hard to find an "ok" looking pic of a celeb w/o their make-up on. They usually look like completly different people.

obviously beauty is only skin deep, most of us know that. But I dont think most of them are popular because of their award winning personalities.
Below the skin, I still think "most" of them are smug and arrogant, therefore unatractive. Thats the opinion I've formed based on how I've seen them behave.
My original post simply stated most of them are pysically unatractive. And i dont know why they are put forth as "soo beautiful"
But the real answer is $$$. A product is a product be it a person or a can of pepsi.
Now on to more pressing issues. Do you think this country will ever change to the metric system?

What they are about is fantasy. If you look at the Glamor pictures of average women that were the rage just a few years ago you will see that almost any woman(or to a lesser extent, Men) can be made to took great with a lot of work. The right camera angles, make-up and hair styling can do it all. Why do you think that many Glamor stars fear the coming of HD TV? Bores through to the real you, and as Meesterperfect has indicated, they don't often do well in those situations.

I love those pictures of celebs without make-up. Drops them down a few rungs with us "normal", "ugly", common folk. Like Pam Anderson. She's gone from an 11 to a 4 IMHO. She just barely hanging on to butter-face status at this point.
