Veteran Cop: 'If You Don't Want To Get Shot,' Shut Up -- Even If We're Violating Your Rights

In a column published Tuesday in The Washington Post titled, "I’m a cop. If you don’t want to get hurt, don’t challenge me," Dutta responds to mounting criticism of the policing tactics on display in Ferguson, Missouri, amid the hyper-militarization of law enforcement and accusations that officers have violated the First Amendment rights of both demonstrators and journalists covering the events. In a particularly telling passage, Dutta argues that citizens could deter police brutality if they were simply more cooperative, even when they're unjustly targeted.

It's worth noting that arguing with a cop and even verbally abusing one, as well as asking for a badge number, are not illegal actions.

Howard Miller:

Sunil Dutta is not fit to serve or instruct in law enforcement.
His attitude is the problem, not citizens being defiant of authority.
The Constitution protects citizens from unwarranted interference by the police, not the reverse.

How about they just do their job the correct way? This is why people hate the police.

If you have a short temper, don't become an officer.

Uuuummm it's called assault. Yes there are some officers that are assholes on an ego trip, but the majority are just normal people doing their job. If a cop goes over the line than they should be investigated and prosecuted if the evidence is there. Saying that all cops are assholes is just like saying that all people that post on a porn board with a cupcake avatar are clueless idiots. I have never encountered a cupcake that wasn't but I can't say that everyone is.

It's not assault, unless you hit someone.

The police need to learn how to do their jobs.

If they can't, then they can find another job.

And once again you prove that you don't know what you are talking about! If you are verbally abusing someone it is assault, if you hit someone it is battery hence assault & battery.

When police say things like this one did. Then it doesn't matter.

Or, this one.
