Video game industry bucks downturn with Feb. sales.

The video game industry continued to defy the recession in February, posting double-digit year-over-year growth with Nintendo Co.'s popular Wii gaming system leading the way.

U.S. retail sales did not grow as quickly versus the year-ago period as they did in January. But revenue from video game hardware still climbed 11 percent to $532.7 million from $481.4 million, according to market researcher NPD Group.

I find that when money's tight, I spend money on stupid shit, such as video games. I guess it's a way for me to avoid confronting the fact that I'm broke. Perhaps I'm not the only one that has that problem.

This isn't anything new. Video games have been very resilient to recessions in the past. For the most part a lot of them are cheep forms of entertainment, and some of them can provide hundreds of hours, if not more, of entertainment at a fraction of the cost of something that doesn't last as long.

Becuase in times of trouble people tend to save up to buy things the enjoy to allow them to have at leas something to enjoy. And I'm sure because they are something they cant do at home gives it more of a place. People tend to spend less money on vacations for example. But women still buy cosmetics, men still buy video games and I still buy inflateable penises that I can throw at old women and into on coming traffic. Something that gives them pleasure now and did before the recession started.

Video game is a very cheap form of entertainment. Just $40-50 bucks and you can play that game for months. Compare to other entertainment like movies and dining and you'll see much much money you can save by staying home to play games.

Video games provide a fantasy world where people can go to forget about there problems, its like shrooms without the streams of light and the miget men running around but on the other hand i guess that depends on what video game your playing
