St. Louis Police Release Video Of Kajieme Powell Killing That Appears At Odds With Their Story

St. Louis Police Chief Sam Dotson said Tuesday that both of the officers opened fire on Powell when he came within a three or four feet of them holding a knife "in an overhand grip."

But the newly released cell phone footage undermines the statement, showing Powell approaching the cops, but not coming as close as was reported, with his hands at his side. The officers began shooting within 15 seconds of their arrival, hitting Powell with a barrage of bullets.

The shooting death occurred less than four miles from where Michael Brown was fatally shot by a police officer in the suburb of Ferguson on Aug. 9.

They lied to coverup the murder.

I usually don't agree with Will, but that in no way was a clean shoot. He wasn't running at them, and he didn't display a knife. He certainitly was not brandishing a knife overhanded. He walked towards them, walked away from them, then started to walk back towards them. The guy probably wasn't in his right mind, and they killed him for it. That was trigger happy cops shooting a man down.

I don't usually agree with Will either (to say the least!) but this one bothers me. What I don't get is....don't these guys carry tasers, pepper spray....you know, non-lethal shit for just such a situation? I didn't see the guy make a move to attack the officers and, for chissakes he was carrying a fucking knife, not an AK-47. They could have even gone for his legs instead of firing a hail of bullets at his torso to make sure he was dead. The shooting victim was definitely out of bounds the way he was acting but the cops' reaction seems like overkill....literally.

No. And that happens more often than you'd think. The police don't get to choose their suspects. I know black cops all over who have used lethal and less than lethal means and it's never been an issue if they're in the right. Stop playing the racist card, dickhead.

If that was two black cops killing a white guy your bitch ass would be typing away on the P & R board :)

Serve in law enforcement and perhaps you will see what means real life in the street and real violence with real gangsta thugs

Be careful what you wish for, it might come true!

I wondered about that too, but don't know enough about tasers to know how effective or not one might have been in this instance.

Perhaps, but......a knife can be a lethal weapon, he'd been ordered many times to drop it, was acting extremely erratically ("shoot me....kill me now") and had (imo after watching the video very carefully many times) definitely just turned and started to close the distance between himself and the nearest cop when he was shot. No the distance wasn't as close as the cops reported (which is disturbing), but it was 10 feet at most and closing. If you shoot at his legs and miss, or fail to stop him with that tactic, or he's hopped up on pcp, within moments you may have a knife buried in your neck or chest.
This looked to me like a possible case of "suicide by cop".
