Went down and bought God of War I and II, before I learned my model ps3............

doesn't play ps2 games. There were so many freakin' models of the ps3 since it came out and only half of them play ps2 games. There was a 40gig that played ps2, 2 different 40gig that didnt, a 180 gig that doesnt, 2 80 gig models one that plays them one that dont. I got the 40gig model that wont play em'. I wanna play the god of wars before GOW3 comes out on ps3.

This is one of many reasons why I hated PS3 when it came out. Does anyone remember when the 360 came out that you couldn't play certain Xbox games on it?

I think you can pick up a PS2 for about $50-80 now. Maybe even cheaper online. What system did ya own before the PS3? I thought everyone had a PS2 haha.

Where did you hear that the 40 GB could play PS2 games? I used to work in the video game department at Toys R Us and I distinctly remember that the only ones that were PS2 compatible were the 20, 60, and the first model of the 80 GB. We also had the rep from Sony visiting us every month to let us know what was going on with the PS3 (and other Sony related products) and he also said specifically that the 40 GB was not PS2 compatible.

To be honest, the last two PS2 GOW games were so damn bust-a-gut polished beyond belief, I couldn't imagine the latest game being such a graphical overhaul, it would take much too long. I imagine merely an HD overhaul in terms of graphics, because previous entries have pushed graphics so muscularly.

The PS2 games look absolutely amazing, especially the second one.

The PS2 games look absolutely amazing, especially the second one.

I think that aside from HD capabilities,you can expect a higher frame rate,which would make for smoother motion and on screen action.Plus,on PS2,if there were a lot of stuff on the screen all moving at the same time,you would get lag.I don't think you have to worry about that this time around.

Through gaming mags and sites I always knew GOW's were applauded for being incredible games. I had a ps1,ps2,xbox1 and now have a 360 and ps3.

I have a habit of dropping and trading an older system when new hardware comes out so thats why I didnt get to the god of war series. As far as assuming my 40gig ps3 played ps2 games, I didnt really think about it cause I had no ps2 games left to try, I had a 360 on day one so I dropped my ps2 awhile ago. I started giving the 1st 2 GOW's more attention when I saw GOW3in action. Go look at Playstation.com,theres like 10 diff. models of ps3 between the U.S. and all other regions,its stupid.

Yeah it sucks that Sony dropped the backwards compatibility. This is something I did not figure Sony would do but I guess they did it to shave some of the costs of making the units.

I played God of War 1. It was a great game. I still have not played 2 yet but going to get around to it.

Surprisingly 500 yrs. later the ps2 still sells like a beast and it IS gonna be that 10year+ life cycle system that sony always calls it. That said, if you want people to jump on the ps3 ride then you gotta make all models backwards compatible right out of the gate. They're still supporting the ps2 with new releases too so people aren't just buying it for the back catalog.

as soon as I get done with Red faction,overlord2,fight night,ghostbusters and infamous I'm gonna buy a ps2 so I can play these 2 GodofWar games. I'm not taking them back, they have too much hype of being unbelievable games.
