I see both sides. I mean, they are subsisting on government money, so they have to follow the rules set forth. If they'd borrowed mafioso cash, the CEO would be swimming with the fishes. Same thing, I feel.

If FreeOnes was a woman, I'd marry her!
Again, economics is not my forte, so let me make sure I understand this. GM begs the government for financial assisstance to stay afloat. The government puts a condition on that assisstance. The condition is that the guy who's overseen the absolute ruin of GM step down. Is that about right, or no?

If you had 3 wishes, they'd all be Freeones.

I didn't realize they'd actually received government money. I knew they had asked for assistance, but I thought the all-righteous Congress had told them to go home and develop a business plan that would show the big 3 were deserving of government aid.

In the meantime, the mobsters -- er, union didn't make any concessions while GM salaried employees lost their pensions.

And then the mighty fuhrer Obama showed his unwillingness to start running private business by telling an American auto manufacturer and then taking over the company's HR office and firing the CEO. The all-knowing Barack Hussein Obama then proceeded to re-write company policy by eliminating severance packages for any other executives he might want to terminate.

All this hope and change involves much more tyranny than anyone of us ever expected. I seriously wonder if this country will survive 4 years of this incompetent, self-absorbed ass...

Oh yes, Republicans who don't have a clue themselves how to fix the America's woes are always quickest at casting the first stone.

I wouldn't say they are subsisting on gov't money. More like the gov't gave them yours & my money.

Pain heals, chicks dig scars, Freeones lasts forever
Actually Waggonner is far from the 1st forced out in all this. The heads of fannie and freddie and AIG all were changed previous. And whats this contant "teleprompted' nonsense in regards to him about lol. While obama was not actually that great in the debates during the presidential primaries IMO he was a cut above anyone when he went out and gave a campaign speech to a crowd where he just walked around with a mike and talked without a teleprompter anywhere around.Compare him to Bush who was awful when unscripted and the comparison is like night and day.
And let me say to the union bashers that the UAW has made many many concessions over the years and will make more. There is no one in the country more interested in seeing GM survive and do well then the workers. Most of the blame for GM's problems lies squarely on decisions the execs made over the years. They made poor choices in product lines , very poor choices on how they spent money on retooling of factories as compared to the japanease etc, like they spent billions to re-tool factories to build cars which never sold well enough to put the factory over 50 % capacity and were built in such a way that they could not eaily shift to a different vehicle so factory was very inefficent. While the japs were smart and built factories that were much more flexible. You can't blame workers for that type of mismanagement.

I hope they can find a new CEO who will pull that company out of an over-regulated shithole.
Of course he (or she) will be required to work for less than $500,000 a year with NO BONUSES!! And possibly be taxed at a 90% rate. Also in the mix will be a government willing to make ex-post-facto changes to its contract, and of course the unions.

Good luck finding good help with that. Farewell General Motors.

Hey scooter take a look here
http://www.time.com/time/business/article/0,8599,1864085,00.html

These are just a few of the concessions the UAW has made.
I have spoken before about my involvement in the labor movement, and as a UAW member I think it is outrageous that again the blame is trying to be placed on the workers or the so called "mobsters" that represent them, you need to remember that while negotiations can be contentious these workers want GM to succeed. As it was stated before mismanagment was a major contributor to the downfall we are seeing. Ron Gettelfinger works tirelessly to help these companies to make it through these times.
And just to fend off an any accusations about Union fat cats(because I have heard these kind of arguments before) just remember Ron himself along with the rest of the great UAW leadership all came out of manufacturing plants, Ron worked for Ford.
I feel blessed and proud to have him as my President.
When did it become a bad thing to have people stand up for the workers who individually might not be strong enough to it themselves.

I find it interesting that right wingers like you feel the need to create a topic after every decision Obama makes just to slam his policy. You voted against him, fine. You want him out of the office, fine. Obama will be our President for the next 3 years and 9 months at least. I am sure people will vote him for the 2nd term because they understand that GOP only knows how to whine and criticize, yet they don't do a damn thing to fix this country.

I think she may know a little more than most of us do.

The president basically deciding to fire the head a private business is serious shit.
Its now obvious that the automotive industry is now run by the government.
Next will be the banks and the insuance companies, then the health system.
Anybody still think he not socialist?
Or at least a promoter of huge government?

Shit, today he actually said this:
"Let me say this as plainly as I can. If you buy a car from Chrysler or General Motors, you will be able to get your car serviced and repaired just like always," Obama said in a speech. "Your warranty will be safe. In fact, it will be safer than it has ever been. Because starting today, the United States will stand behind your warranty."

This is the President of the USA saying this.
Cover your warranty? The Government?
Boy do I feel better now.

Our current leaders are like vampires, and once vampires get their fangs in your neck they won't stop sucking until all the blood is gone.
GM was the first victim.
Pelosi , Reid, Obama, Barney Frank, Chuck Rangle, Tim Geithner are in control now. They have no business experience, they are lawyers, aka bloodsuckers.
They wont stop until the economy is like the living dead or someone drives a stake through their hearts.

On the housing market, if you can't pay your mortgage you cant pay your mortgage, doesn't matter who holds the deed.
If people who can't afford a house then they either lose it and start over as renters or they sell it cheap, and prices fall to where people can afford them again.
A free ecomony.
Gov. stepping in won't do anything but prolong the problem, and the solution, and in the meantime quadruple the debt.

yeah we sure took alot of their oil.
yeah freedom, I'd say your freedom is pretty shitty when you gotta work 2 jobs 7 days a week just to rent an apartment due to the huge tax burden and inflation that will be increasing tremendously in the next few years due to the current presidents actions, unless you have a few kids you can't afford therefore can't work.

And teach me professor, please tell me one thing Bush did to cause the current recession?

You prove my point yet again...I'm not a right-winger, not now or ever. You just paint everyone not an Obama-Zombie like yourself with the same worn-out brush.
You have no clue how I or anyone voted, but still base your argument on fantasy and innuendo.
You are a self-created stereotype.

. . .And in the same news report (today), we're hearing that a GM and Chrysler bankruptcy is quite likely, and as Georges Steponawfulstuff reports, that GM and Chrysler, in the event that they go bankrupt, may come out stronger . . ." Stronger than what, George ? Why did not the government keep it's nose out of it in the first place instead of adding to the detriment in the form of a bialout ?
We might already be on a certain road to recovery had the govt not interfered . . .maybe ?

..What did they know and when did they know it ?
Bankruptcy, that is. For why were these bailout expenditures allowed to occur ? I remember Hank Paulson (former U.S. Treasury Sec.) assuring us that the bailout monies may not be enough to reestablish a workable and profitable financial atmosphere for the Big Two ( GM and Chrysler ) and in another sentence say that the NYSE will crash by . . . "this Friday if we don't inject bailout monies into the system." Does anybody remember that ? How can this government just throw such exorbitant amounts of our money around without accountability ?

..Were these high ranking big shots playing a game of chance with future American taxpayer obligations ? - Or were we simply taken to the cleaners by these guys ? For why would they NOT tell us how or where the bailout monies were distributed ?
Oh that's right, they're honest, we'll just step aside and leave it in their good hands, right ?

This is a mess beyond comprehension and that's the way they like it. :(
