I have always viewed europe as being similar to the to the US,except here we are one big country where there it was all separate states. Our being united has been a big advantage for us economically and europe being so splintered has been a big disadvantage for them IMO.So as I see it the EU is a very positive move for the europeans, for the US it may not be that great since we might lose the advantage we had.

The problem is we are all separate countries not states, its a bit like asking the USA to amalgamate with South America. It doesn't work and Britain for one, never held a referendum on the Maastricht Treaty because the government knew it would be voted against. You can be proud of being an American citizen, but I don't know anyone who would call themselves a European citizen.

Well I certainly see myself as a European citizen, but that might be explained by the fact that I'm not a soccer fan.... ;)

All the separate states in the US could have been separate countries and most viewed themselves that way for the most part during our earlier history. For example someone from Virginia would say there allegiance first and foremost lied with Virginia and the United States second. This view btw helped lead to the civil war we had in 1860.

The US being formed relatively not long ago was able to look at places many of them had come from like europe and not repeat what they viewed as flaws they saw in those places. They knew one big country coast to coast would be much more formidable ,as well as hopefully avoid all of the problems they saw in europe between the states/countries,like constant wars and in fighting for centuries.

As to being proud to be a European citizen or calling yourself that, there is the rub.You folks have been divided so long and developed all these individual national identities that true unification is made all the harder.

Europe? Oh that's where the pussies live

Oh yeah, there is pussy there alright. Pussy that knows when to put the fork down. Pussy that doesn't usually mind taking it up the corn hole from time to time and getting high as a kite after wards.;)

Thanks to WikiLeaks I'm wondering on a certain question as of late.
In some cables of Cablegate, the US Embassy in the Vatican clearly sees the Holy See as a supranational institution that, in it's foreign policy, should be treated as a nation-state.
I was wondering how this relates to the status of the EU as a supranational institution, which in it's foreign policy should be treated as multiple and different nation-states.
Any ideas on this?

I think we need to loose the countries that just leech on the payer-states

Sadly, the big states are actually leeching on the sucker countries a lot more, making them buy our weapons etc. Its a power-balance, and how could we solve this knot?

Maybe it will take another Alexander the Great and his sword...

Yes, I bribed and cheated to get this far
So, what is the official language or, if there is not one official language, what is the predominant language? That is one problem for the EU, so many different languages. Then look at the different economies and how countries like Greece or Spain can be a drag on their common currency. A chain is only as strong as its weakest link.
